Here’s another one I love:
to add on to the Tracey Thorn appreciation, I meant to post this last week and got distracted by having to do actual work

Vaguely remembered this from when it was released but it was hearing it out (saturday afternoon shopping somewhere if you must know) some time in the mid 00s when I rediscovered it, and now its comfortably one of my favourite 90s house tunes.
Her books are good aswell.
There was talk of a ‘catch’ in the voice. its here in the opening few bars of the vocal. Not a bad tune for an australian born country singer…
wow. bump! great idea
There are great voices who can really SING, and then there are people who can really DELIVER a song. Often not the same people (eg Grace Jones).
Loleatta Holloway though.

Love how Chaka just LOOKS like a song
My favourite Lolleatta - The drama
Hard to pick a favourite Loleatta but this is up there for me:

Luther Vandross
Laura Groves
Norma Winstone
Sandy Denny
Wizz Jones
Fred Neil
& as @grantham_disco says, all the drama. You know you have to listen to the end to see where she’s gonna take it. Love it.
Watched the George Michael 2 part doc on ch4 earlier this week so been listening to him a bit this week.
Love this one.
That was a grim watch at times, the fucking papparazi’s and tabloid journos had me shouting at the telly. Proper scumbags.
Unrepentant as well despite knowing the misery they’d help cause
