Disco rock party

Whenever I had a rock type brief I never felt like I had enough sure shots and would end up in rock n roll/soul/psyche land to get the job done:

Plus the obvious from the Kinks/Yardbirds…

You going to rock out start to finish with peak hour tracks like all the above or you going to build up to them??? Think I’d start early for hosts, then arrivers and chatters e.g., Bon Iver (e.g., Towers, Flume, Bloodbank, Holocene, S P E Y S I D E, Calgary), lesser played Fleetwood Mac (e.g., Storms, Walk a Thin Line, Over My Head, Hypnotized, You Make Lovin Fun, Did You Ever Love Me) etc. and similar to keep me sane for an hour or two, interspersed with slower songs from bands they like, and then build tempo towards peaking with hours of above once a few drinks sunk!

I’ll be happy to rock out at peak time as I normally get pushed off after a few by another DJ who plays techno at three times the volume. It’s only a house party but with considerable effort on the sound and lighting quality.

I’ve done the warm up thing but it isn’t going to be deep. It’s me and the host sharing the music duties so the rock records are mostly found on bootsales and tips rather selected and bought at retail. Hypnotised is one of those tracks I’ve had complaints about twice from the like the 10 records for life crew.

All the usual TP favourites are on the cards for dancing time, I don’t have a copy of Mac’s Rumours or the eponymous album from them, Tusk, Tango and the Gorilla one is here…I’ll see what’s on them.

Really well known but overlooked by me, I was thumbing through some priced Stones today, that’s a great choice.

Ticks your folk box. Yeah that and the Miss You 12" extended like Hierbas said, winners.

The Peaches/Phenomenal Handclap Band version is fun (and cheaper :-).

might be a bit indie/new wave, insufficient hair …

And Barnsley’s gothiest export maybe? I think there’s a load of extended mixes

Jeeezus, that Chameleons tune, I haven’t heard it or thought about it since my very gorgeous exotic( to me) goth girlfriend used to play it to me back then. In retrospect most of my friends back then had great taste. Super nostalgic moment, for someone who is not nostalgic.

The brief is very loose. No House or Disco, nothing too clever for this party but I love all the suggestions. It’ all good intel for another year of digging about as I often dimiss rock flavours like the Comsat Angels.

Chameleons did some brilliant stuff, went down a rabbit hole online.
