I guess to an extent it’s what always happens when people die. They aren’t there to undermine their own myth, either consciously or accidentally.

I mean, how do you think Jesus got so big?

This is what I wanted to say but put more succinctly. Seems a bit snide to be sniffy about AW acolytes. Yes its a bit silly sometimes and he would have undoubtedly raised an arched eyebrow about it all, but as you say the power to bring communities together not just to have a party but to project shared values and ethos is pretty remarkable. I cant think of anyone else from the electronic music world, or even out of it with that sort of gravitas. So you’ve got to forgive the odd blert that gets carried away, it all comes from a good place.

I think it was deliberately partridge esque. There were a few variations, one of which described wevvers as “business leader”! I’m not sure the terrible spelling of renowned was deliberate though @reubenturner !

I used to love tuning Into those. One of the first « live » things I remember on the internet around 1999 or maybe early 2000. There was one with Duncan Gray /Sons of Slough. Rocky and Diesel also did some crackers at the same time that had a similar electro flavour. I think there was even a curry delivery for Andrew mid set at one point. No doubt as a result of the prolific puffing! Excellent. Thnx for posting.

a nice little AW story for anyone who’s interested.

In 2011, we were headed to the Electric Elephant Festival. Ryanair however had other ideas, and on arriving at Glasgow airport, they informed us that our flight was delayed and as a result, we would now miss our connecting flight (also Ryanair) from Stanstead to Zadar.

Incidentally, when we arrived at Stanstead, our connecting flight had also been delayed, but fucking Ryanair would still not allow us to board!!

We made the decision to book flights to Pula in the early hours of the morning and slept on the airport floor. What followed was a 4 hour, £400 taxi along the most beautiful coastline as we attempted desperately to arrive on time for the ALFOS boat party. An attempt that ultimately ended in failure. I think we missed it by about 15 minutes.

Anyway, later that night, at the beach bar, I clocked Andrew and asked him how the boat party went (I’d never met him before in my life). He jokingly grilled me over why I hadn’t been on board. When I explained the story he laughed and then told me to come down and meet him tomorrow and he’d give me a CD full of music that he’d been playing recently.

Regrettably, I never went down to meet him, because that weekend turned quite messy, but what a thoroughly nice gesture.

Should have commandeered a jet ski to catch the boat up. What could possibly go wrong?
Fail we may…

Anyone else forget that they’d ordered the latest ALFOS compilation? Dropped both digitally and in physical form for me this morning :sunglasses:

I haven’t ordered it but I know two people who’ve had more than one copy delivered!

I bought the original run which for a while went for daft money but all these reprints have brought it down to something reasonable. Definitely worth a purchase

Still like Once In A Lifetime for the books that catalogue that era

I remember seeing a copy for sale for a grand.

Why I didn’t sell my copy then I don’t know. I could have spent it wisely on a load bollocks.

It is a nice package indeed. Unfortunately mine was delivered from Piccadilly this morning and both vinyl have punctured the inner sleeve and spine. :disappointed:
