Andrew Weatherall

If memory serves… There was a party where they sort of launched the sabres live thing at the ymca car park in London. Pretty sure wilmot was played and we were all like ‘that one was good’

Plenty of cheesy nights there, but also some great ones!

Edit: Would have been '94 I reckon.

Saw Weatherall at Volts multiple times though. Halycon days for UK nightlife, when you had amazing DJs playing shitty clubs in provincial cities on a week night! Who’s Ya Daddy crew also did some good nights at Volts under a different name which I forget.

From Tom Middleton on Facebook:

Was an honour to share the bill with Andrew on many occasions. From warm up sets in the early 90’s at Volts in Exeter…

Wow, was there then. Had no idea. Admittedly wasn’t too clued up but the last place on earth I would imagine him at. Mostly remember quaffing “sex on exmouth beach” shots and getting down to Baby D.

There were lots of good nights down there. Wednesdays were run by Mighty Force. Here’s a Weatherall flyer - not mine

Talking of local Weatherall haunts I used to frequent this quite regularly.

Think this was around 92 he played there quite regularly. Used to be in the Jamaica centre and moved to after dark club I think. Parachute and a strobe light set up.

I wonder whether this is 93? I went to CC for the first time just before Christmas and saw Billy Nasty. That really was a game changing night (I liked the harder edged ‘trance’ music at the time!). Amazing club and time.

listening to “swimming not skimming” right now and i was reminded of reading something in an old weatherall interview around this time where he spoke of some magical preamp or processor that he (or his engineers, more specifically) used on all of his bass sounds. ring any bells? i don’t remember it being fully bespoke, but i think it was possibly circuitry that had been pulled out of an old mixing desk.

Neve desks are known for having a fat sound so maybe a Neve pre?

could be? for some reason i remember it being a urei/universal audio/united studios thing (maybe a summing amp/compressor?), but i could be conflating it with some other tech talk.
