It’s so cool / such a trip having cats who were there back in the day popping up on social media now and interacting with people, confirming stories and clearing up misconceptions (as Nile has kindly done above). A real privilege.

A few more faves from me:

I bought that from a charity shop recently, there’s another album he made with Thom Bell knocking about apparently

I must be the only person out there who actually prefers the album version of this song to the Francois K mix. I love the rhythm guitar track, I like the weird singing and the lyrics, and the instrumental bit is totally nuts. To me it’s like Free Jazz Disco, just on another level.

Fortunately Prince Language made an edit that sort of blended both.

Also the only track that Walter Gibbons made worse?

I actually fault a few of his mixes like Arts & Crafts - I’ve Been Searching. He got a lot right, but a lot wrong too. But yes, I agree, his version of this was also not great.

As a PS: at the time Arthur Russell wasn’t crazy about the François K mix either, although when he saw it was a big hit he probably changed his mind.

That was great not seen before.

I think it’s an excerpt from Wild Combination, in case you haven’t seen that
