Where's Music At?

Synthesized soul, a languid funk bump, transportive tropical tropes and a sun bleached lo-fi Balearic balminess mingle amiably in this smile inducing, warm weather winner from Reuben Vaun Smith for Soundway Records.

Remix albums are often hit & miss affairs, but @flaurecords A-list choice of stem fiddlers have done an unfailing fine job of taking @kumi_takahara’s recent contemporary classical LP in all sorts of easy going & enjoyable directions.

I don’t usually go for live recordings but this session from Lionmilk for Preference Records is such a great LA Beat nodding, tuned in & tripped out cosmic jazz session, with the distant recording giving procedings an even further out vibe.

Love her stuff but the LP prices are a bit OTT.

Yes - probably the most expensive “new” album I purchased last years was her debut. However, beautifully pressed, textured oversized cover, lush booklet and many repeated spins later - it was worth every cent. I will buy the new one asap also, as I’m sure her records won’t be mass produced and if you snooze, you loose.

Digging this from Public Possession after Ruf Dug namedropped it on his NTS show.

Love the Chill Pill series! Quality series of compilations - they rep a fair few Australian acts on them which is how I initially discovered them

Bloody hell £35 and it doesn’t even seem to be a triple vinyl, gold embossed, hand painted limited edition, just a normal LP. If ever there was a good argument for Spotify there it is…

Agreed - top curation!

Ah OK, it sounds a bit better than your run of the mill vinyl, but still!? Money to a good cause though. In Asia tipping artists is really common on streaming services, the sooner that becomes the norm here as well the better.

Hi all! Been a while. Came across this EP on RA earlier today and it was such a great listen. Improvised tracks channeling 90s DnB with a minimal edge to it all. Really great.

Continuing his journey through spiritual jazz realms Nat Birchall arrives in Africa to pay homage to the land where it all began and in doing so further cements his position as one of the leading custodians of the spiritual jazz flame.

Manchester’s @SpaceAfrika via LAs @daisrecords are repurposing chillout for the phone in hand, hydroponically high, nihilistic youth huddled in urban landscapes, sedating, contemplating & slowly awakening from this post-truth neoliberal nightmare.

The jazz is flowing this week with the arrival of the fruits of Greg Foat’s pre-pandemic Finnish recording session in a snow covered cabin, with the result an anything but frosty, diverse fusion of deep late night spacey grooves & smoother sunnier jams for Jazzaggression Records.

The jazz recommendation triptych is complete with this fittingly triangular South Africa, Senegal & London meeting of like minds, made all the more remarkable by the pandemic improvised remote recording process. Progressive, border & boundary bashing jazz of the highest order, out today on Mushroom Hour Half Hour & Total Refreshment Centre.

For those that enjoyed the linkwood & other lands lp from last year, the other lands new lp just dropped on vinyl, I think digital was available last year. Anyway it’s lovely.
