Whats the last record you bought?

Btw you’ll save almost a fiver by getting it direct from Ctr records.

Earl Jeffers edits vol 1 (Earl’s Booom), one to rock one to deadstock. Juno even sent me a double up of it accidentally so now i have 4 copies…

Tuff Cut 02

visited a perfectly fine record store on the oregon coast this week, and like a lot of new record stores - it’s pretty much nothing but new stuff. this is great for many/most people, but i don’t want a bunch of sealed copies of greatest hits records for $45 a pop, nor do i want re-issues of already unavoidable albums.

i also get a twinge of guilt walking out of any record store empty-handed and considered buying something like a horace silver or gong re-ish just to provide to someone as a future gift. but even then, i prefer buying vinyl noobs original pressings - it’s part of the entry-point fun.

so i picked up what was probably the only record in there that was used, somewhat cheap, and in my lane: Portion Control – ..Step Forward (1984, Vinyl) - Discogs

I used to have guilt about not buying anything but not anymore. If your stock isn’t for me then I’ll move on. Even stores I go into regularly I’m ok with leaving empty handed.

New Calm album “Before”
A mixed bag imo, but enough brilliance to keep me happy, as is the case with his previous releases.
The real standouts are “Long Summer Dream” and “I Love You”, the latter in particular should absolutely delight most people
A bit too much twinkly piano and wind instruments in places, made me feel like I was experiencing mall muzak, or watching 80s porn

The true test will be next week on the Costa de la Luz, as I stare out to sea, 3 gins in, wearing a kaftan or something, probably accepting it’s a fucking masterpiece
