The Rosie Gaines/Vasquez Prince song on the other side is pretty special too
The only Sade edit I possess. I even sold my twelve of Larkin and Pullenās āSurrender Your Loveā.
Ooh never flipped it before.
Think Iām right in saying it was done around '90 when Junior had done a few mixes at Paisley Park. Prince wrote the song for RG (who he called his āsecret weaponā) when she was in NPG, and Vasquez did the production. But she fell out with Prince the following year and the track never made it out with her.
The Musk Men bootleg was its first release, but that wasnāt until '95 and it basically got lost again coz the Hani mix of Sade was so massive - like you no-one ever turned it over!
And that was it 'til she put out about a dozen Vasquez dubs, accaps & mixes digitally about 10 years ago, but I donāt think anyone noticed!
Itās got some huge moments and used to be a go-to record for me. I couldnāt count how many times Iāve been asked about it, getting a āshit, Iāve got itā when its revealed.
Actually it might have been a couple of years later as its got a little strings riff/sample which Iām sure is from Mass Order
Iāve never played the other side of this. Will rectify that this evening!
I love that. I spent Covid very deliberately turning all my records over with the concrete rule of not playing the one I always played. Turns out my record collection was much more extensive once i shook off the gravitational pull of the ābestā track / one Iād bought it for. Totally changed the way I play and search for music ongoing, really. I think everyone has loads of hidden gold on their own shelves.
Edit: kinda like when someone at an afters asks if they can have a go and you end up asking them what your own records are.
Copped this beaut. Title track is amazing.

Whenever people come round who have an interest and start pulling stuff out Iām always surprised at what I didnāt know I had
Wow this is like an AA meeting⦠second this!!
Hadnāt thought of it like that but now that you mention it! ![]()
Yeah, same. Itās like going record shopping without spending a dime.
Dug it out. Listening now. Banger. Sounds very familiar possibly because of the samples or possibly because Iāve heard it and loved it and not realised I had it all along. Doh. Thanks for the prompt mate!
Restless nights on that is absolute killer!! Five quid too !! Very nice! ![]()
The thought of somebody else going through my records has just brought me out in a rash.
I booked this guy to play The Social around the time this came out. He wheeled an old computer monitor onto the stage and stuck a microphone in front of it.
Putting stuff back in sleeves that were left out and trying to find records that have been put back in the wrong covers the next day annoys me but apart from that I quite like it. Especially people that can mix while youāre cooking or whatever. Itās like a special treat.
Had a mini splurge on the recent coldcuts online sale. And picked up some regular priced releases. My credit card provider loves me right now
Once had an idea for a concept. Some random person brings his/her records and the dj plays them.
you can also do it as a thing where a dj comes to your house and play your records and then record//stream it.
