It’s tempting to dismiss these AI personas as novelties: toys that a small number of people find engaging but which can’t provide the depth, complexity and realness of interaction with living humans. But as the example of Jaswant Chail shows, realness isn’t a settled quality, and messages generated by a chatbot have the potential to change minds, as any form of writing does. For thousands of years we have used writing to extend the reach of the self through seals, spells, inscriptions, letters, books and pamphlets. In the case of bots modelled on real individuals, might they not wield some diluted form of that individual’s authority? Letters and contracts already perform this function, while the apparatuses of state and religion multiply our selves by means of birth certificates, baptismal records and so on. These selves are versions of you that accrue specific debts, like income tax, but are also used to exercise specific privileges, like access to healthcare (or eternal salvation).

Horrible behaviour from these mega-corps – and I’m skeptical the Australian government will do much about it.

Went mainly when it was at Clear, saw Weatherall, Dave Clarke, Claude Young, Jeff Mills, Billy Nasty too although bit later…they absolutely killed it with the line ups for a bit. Residents Steve Shiels and Andy Nicholson too need a shout.

He used to be a friend of a friend and got us in to a few Rocky and Diesel bashes, I’ve a vague memory of some boat do amid the towers of Canary Wharf

I’m blindsided by this Martin Samuel is a nice bloke and a clubber revelation! I’ve found his journalism on financial fair play very irritating, seems to want to just make the premier league a money talks free for all. But respect for this one

Wow, never saw that coming.

Akin to when I found out Ed Conway of The Times was a massive todd terje/nu-disco fan.

Yep, I wouldn’t read any of his football writing personally, he’s a bit too cosy with certain state owned clubs imo but that was a nice piece.

Can’t really vouch for his politics, but I respected his football knowledge and writing. I taught and was tutor to two of his kids and we had a few chats over the years. Weirdly, I thought I saw him and his missus at Giant Steps last Sunday, but it was dark in there!

This is a pretty wild ride. Be interested to hear from those TP members who have experience with these events.
