Very busy early doors. We arrived at 7pm and downstairs was already rocking. Upstairs was getting really busy too by about 2030. Loads of bods out as you’d expect, although a few noticeable absences too (unless thay all arrived later (we ducked out at 10pm). All the place needs is some aircon (too warm for me) and a few more bar staff (painfully slow service). Was good to catch up with loads of folk. Grace smashed it as per. Noble & Heath very good upstairs too.
Quality as always.
I’m not fully convinced on Neon as a venue though.
I went to something in my local park yesterday they put on every year. One of those freebies with banging generic house music on a terrible system with thousands of people dancing in between crushed cans of Estrella. Always a different vibe in Spain to similar more controlled park things in England. Never any high viz stewards, fencing or kids inhaling balloons. It literally is a guy with a system under a gazebo and anyone just turning up. You get the families at the start and curious locals and then gradually all the professional crustie squad rock up. Smell of spliff or piss and little stalls selling Rammstein tshirts. Local, free and there’s bugger all else musicwise where I live so you feel obliged to get involved. But I think I’ve just reached a point where I just can’t handle the crowds anymore.
I had a great time. I liked the venue (although agree with the comments on aircon - downstairs was v hot - and the bar service was crazily slow). The sound downstairs in the house room was spot on and thought Grace was excellent, deep and jacking. Radio Slave also v good, started disco and went housey. Upstairs was a welcome change of pace and heat from downstairs when needed and really enjoyed Dave and Leo’s sets. Long time since I’ve heard Bob’s Yer Uncle in a club! Great crowd, loads of friendly faces and our crew all really enjoyed themselves. Looking forward to the boat party
Friday night I went to see the Pharcyde. 30 years on and they still put on a great show. All the favourites really well delivered. I took my 14 year old son and his mate who both idolise Kanye/Kendrick and my 17 year old who is into grime and they loved it.
Was it all the OG members?
They played Manchester last nite, wanted to go but couldn’t make it.
3 of the 4. Fat Lip is back in the fold but no Bootie Brown
I see the video of the fella blatantaly having a massive bump, whilst sat down upstairs, has mysteriously disappeared from FB…![]()
The Jesus and Mary Chain last night at St Lukes in Glasgow. Nice to see them up close and and intimate.
Exiting stage.
I’m sure that when they started out they imagined this was the perfect way to watch them, from a seat up high in the gods
Stellar lineup
Standing on the sides of the upper bit where I was but I take your point.
Jim and William did have an argument with each other, several false starts of one song and they totally gave up on another, so it was a bit like old times ![]()
Anyone been to Houghton? Mrs J_C and I fancy a festival this year. Is it totally a young crew vibe and full on, or can it be chilled too? I’m 55 in May and pretty sedate these days partying wise!
Line-up is decent though ![]()
Anything else worth considering?
Have thought about it, but it’s a trek from us. House is owned by the (ex?) friends of Kate & Wills, thought of giving my socialist pounds to them would grate somewhat. Don’t know if it’s full of posh twats though? Lineup looks good as you say…
Telephones playing here tonight too with Fett Burger. Were it up to me alone, would be a no-brainer…
Saw that. That’s a real journey for us in Edinburgh though!
Right near where I live. Year before last they had Underground Resistance down here. Always a fantastic lineup!
