What you going to?

Flylife was amazing, Eu Nao and Samba Magic too. So much sweaty fun. Gradually lost interest though as the word got out. the gigs became less fun, they dropped all the Brazilian carnival antics and felt like they went a bit studenty. Would be interested to hear any recordings of the early brixton parties they did (Rooty and before that). Sadly missed out on all that.

Went to their night at Mass in Brixton way back when, brilliant wonky energy & loads of sirens
They had some big name US house DJ as guest who was totally boring in comparison

I went to a few of the early ones at the pub in Loughborough Junction and another pub on Brixton Hill. Packed, sweaty and riotous fun, often massive roadblocks outside trying to get in. Felix was also one of the first Whistlebump guests when we did it at the Clinic in Chinatown and was superb.

Heard Frank Tope play out a few times. Decent dj & really liked the wild geese stuff he put out

There was one NYE in brixton when rob da bank did something at a pub on the hill on the right (heading to Streatham). Pretty grim IIRC

going even further back, i used to go to a night here in Exeter called Shakedown where Frank Tope was one of the resident djs when he was at university here. I clearly remember a dancer really standing out on the floor at the time, way cooler than anyone else. Turns out it was Felix Buxton, which explains why Frank was a Rooty resident down the line

George IVth

That’s the one, forgot the name. There was talk of Expansions being a bit hackneyed now in the Loft thread, but I remember Felix playing it in the middle of a house set at George IV and it was sensational

That will be great. Have a good one

I’ve got two tickets to this at ICA tonight and can’t go. If you can use them you’re welcome to them - I’d love them to go to a good home

It’s me that should be thanking you. Appreciate it.
Especially as I’ve just sat through a presentation from the VP of marketing for Mattell about how Barbie is saving the world.

You deserve some Pharoah Sanders healing after that! Hope it’s a good show
