Anyone come across Pirate Studios? I’m currently in the one in Camden. Booked for 2 hrs with my son. Two pioneer NSX 2000s and a Pioneer mixer, nice monitors. You can record a mix or just practice. He’s currently banging out the jungle sounds. I’d definitely book it for an hour or two after work to catch up with likeminded friends to play new tunes to each other, have a bit of a mix….just like the old days! You can bring drinks into the studio I think.
Edit: super easy to record a set using your phone. Think I’ll come in and do my next radio show pre record in here.
Have heard of, but never used. I was looking into it to get some practice time on a Pioneer mixer as the only time i ever use them is when i play out, and tbh, i havent got a clue what 80% of what the functions are…
My philosophy has alway been ‘less is more’ when it comes to mixers
Just saw they have one in Plymouth, might have a go see if I get on with NSX’s, quick question, could I use raw mp3’s WAV’s etc or do they need to have been ‘Rekorbox’ed’?
Yes, you can. With WAVs make sure they are 16bit not 24 as some CDJs dont recognise them. Although the tracks obviously wont show the track data if they haven’t been analysed in Rekordbox
Friday - Little Simz at Alexandra Palace was incredible. She’s got a body of work now, great variety between the style of different tracks and real stage presence. My only small gripe was that most of it was just performed with backing tracks, then a guitarist and keyboard player added towards the end. With a full live band she’d be amazing - surely Inflo has to a Sault/Simz/Sol night at some point??
Saturday - Makaya McCraven at the Barbican as part of London Jazz Festival. Quite the band with him on drums, bass, guitar, trumpet, vibraphone, two marimbas and a 20 piece string section. Sometimes it was jazz, sometimes contemporary classical. Spellbinding.
Saturday (encore) - ALFOS at Luno (new tiny space within Koko). Quite surreal to wind up the stairs at Camden Palace through the young hordes of main room ravers, into a red velvet cocoon for the older generation at the top. It’s a great little self-contained space and Sean played a blinder with loads of old faves and many unknowns too. Less chug than I expected and the better for that, but the way he builds up the hypnotic groove all night is pretty impressive. Super friendly crowd as always and a good time.
The last few ALFOS sets I’ve heard Sean play have definitely been more in house territory. I think the sound has changed and Sean has been forging his own path since Andrew’s passing
