What you going to?

London crew. Finally looking like I’ll make it to Om tomorrow night. Felix playing all night. Shout if you’re in the area. Starting the run up at 3pm ish in the pub in Shoreditch…what could possibly go wrong?!

I’d love to have that on my doorstep. What’s the story with those speakers? And curvatia, really underrated record.

Just seen this mate. Sorry to miss you and bit of a coincidence as I ended up going there last night for the first time after Brick Lane Jazz festival. Yu Su was playing. Not really my thing musicwise so didn’t stay that long but I was really impressed with the sound and the space, very evocative of Plastic People except with more lights. The sound in the middle of the floor is something else. Would love to go when another DJ more my cup of tea is playing, sure Felix will be great.

Brick Lane Jazz Festival was fun. Cool concept with lots of venues accessible on the same pass and queues were fine so managed to jump from one thing to another easily.

Started with Work, Money, Death from Leeds in 93 Feet East. Strong Pharaoh Sanders influence being channelled through a sax player who looked like Buster Bloodvessel.

On to Ruby Rushton at Rough Trade which was the highlight of the night. Really tight band and a great vibe.

Then popped into Mad Cats listening bar where Paul Murphy was playing some nice tunes.

On to 91 brick lane for Richie Spaven but wasn’t really feeling it, pretty one paced. Went to Rich Mix for Another Taste who have released some brilliant stuff on Space Grapes. The sound was really harsh, almost unlistenable so stayed for a few tunes but no longer. Would love to see them in venue with a better set up they deserve.

Saw Smerz at Heaven on Friday. Early gig and not what i expected but very good indeed. ALFOS at Phonox on Saturday was a proper affair. Totally love the crowd in there and Sean Johnston was excellent.

I saw warpaint at meltdown a couple of years ago. They were absolutely brilliant. Drummer as tight as anything, totally locked in with the bass player- you can tell that she lived at Flea’s house for a while ( Ill let you clock it for yourself) and great ,great songs. They were so, so cool.

Down next week for the opening night of my old man’s play at the Lyceum in Edinburgh. A few famous faces from the worlds of literature, politics and Scottish football will be in attendance as a surprise. The script is now getting published too off the back of the interest. Not bad for an old dude with Dementia.
