Yeah, it was a great! It’ll be interesting to hear how their main album goes. Assumed this may be a one man and a drum machine gig - but some beautiful backing harmonies from the band.

i have a friend who’s going to the great escape in brighton. it’s billed as a “new music” festival. i like new music, so i took a look at the line-up and other than peaches and kingfsher, i don’t know a single one of these bands/acts. and there’s a lot of them.
any that you know, that i should look out for?
Wow, looking through that list is a quick way of feeling old/out of touch…
The few I know are Footshooter (jazzy broken beat house)
Orielles (indieish, some good remixes)
Anigine de Poitrine (arty punky funky, meant to be bonkers live)
Working mens club (indie electronic, kind of like a punky lofi New Order)

After a fairly lengthy IP address related access issue I am back and going to this weekend after next. New events always carry a risk of issues (bar queues etc!) but lineup is stellar and well varied too. Worth the trek up north from the deep SW I hope

I’m going to see Carl Craig and Octave One at the Roundhouse on Friday. I’m sure it will be good but suspect I’ll wish it was more “club” than “gig”

I managed to get a ticket for Ezra Collective’s free show at the Colour Factory last Saturday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of their first album. Bit of a full circle moment as I went to the launch gig for that album in Foyles bookshop on Charing Cross road of all places in 2016.
It was cool to see them play in a small club venue given they now sell out the 02 arena. It was ridiculously rammed which took the edge off it a bit but was an impressive show. They played the whole of their first album followed by God gave Me Feet For Dancing and then were joined by a stream of guests - Zara McFarlane, Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd, Shabaka Hutchings, Theon Cross - for a load of classics, Footprints, Rye Lane Shuffle, Water Get no Enemy, Space is the Place. Great energy in the room and a class act.

In fairness this was quite interesting to watch, but not enough to take away from the hype machine nature of it all.
Also the Glass Beams observation is spot on. I thought it was them at first.
Never been a huge fan of dressing up musical acts apart from these legends obvs

i worked with a womble once. He was in a pub rock band and knew Mike Batt, who asked him to dress up for Top of the Pops. He later became a Graphic Designer which should be a lesson to us all.
