I saw him on his last tour and it was a superb gig. Going to see him on Wednesday and will report back. Apparently quite a few Talking Heads tracks in the set. Go for it!
David Rodigan at the Jazz Cafe last night was a whole lot of fun. Great crowd and he really is the consummate showman.
I’ve got three tickets for next Sunday’s follow-up but I’ve got an early flight on Monday so can’t make it. Going to a good home if anyone fancies it
Bugged out weekender from Friday. Getting exited. Friday night planned already
- John Loveless>James Holroyd>Erol Alkan>Dresden>Tia Cousins. We’ll see how that pans out…
Think there may be a cpl from here going. I’ll prob be knocking about in some TP garb, so come say hi ![]()
Does he still talk for 5 minutes about when he heard / 1st played / 2nd played each record
One festival it started to grind a bit
I was close to getting tickets for this, but I genuinely think I would need a whole week off work to recover.
Leave it tidy - i’m there next weekend for Southport.
Im in the same boat and luckily off work til after st Paddy’s day, fly straight to Lanzarote after the festival for a recovery week ![]()

That’s worked out perfectly ![]()
John Carpenter did that too when we saw him at Primavera, although we actually enjoyed all the history
I think it’s the same with Rodigan. It’s part of his charm for me.
Got to get myself to Om at some point. Justin Strauss all night on Friday will be brilliant.
I’m catching him Tuesday. Sandwiched between a Stephen Morris Q&A in a cafe near me then Echo and the Bunnymen at Albert Hall weds.
David Byrne was superb last night. Loads of Talking Heads - Naive Melody, And She Was, Slippery People, Psycho Killer, Life During Wartime, Once in a Lifetime, Burning Down the House - mixed in with his solo stuff.
The set up was quite similar to the American Utopia tour - 13 people on stage constantly moving, him plus five dancers/backing singers, four percussionists, keyboard player, guitar and bass (all with instruments strapped to them).
It was more like watching a musical than a standard concert with everyone in perpetual motion, brilliantly lit in bright colours, all the band in orange suits, and a great addition from the last tour was the a curved, floor to ceiling video screen. The visuals were great - including of his apartment!
If you get the chance to go you must. 73, energetic, and still a real artist, reimagining his repertoire and innovating. 10/10
Sounds amazing!
I love that, ever since Stop Making Sense he’s been completely uninterested in the idea of just putting a band on stage. Constantly thinking about the audience/shared experience.
Saw “Stop Making Sense” at a film festie in a cinema here 2 years back and it sounded awesome. Am no technical bod, but the acoustics felt so good, it was like you were right there at the gig. Hearing the Tom Tom Club was an extra treat because I always thought that was separate
My son took me when it was on at the Duke of York, it was like a gig, most of the audience dancing in the aisles by the end
There is a film of the American Utopia show from a few years ago online. Not seen it yet
David Byrne’s American Utopia - stream online
N1 Sound at Holy with Tom Dubwise and Richard Fearless Sunday 5th April.
