Couple of good ones coming up at The Waterbear for Brighton heads…ALFOS end of Jan and David Holmes mid March.
I see D Holmes is waitlist only already - I think it’s replacing a postponed show so presumably all those tickets are honoured
I think they’re both afternoon too (I might have to get over it and just go already)
Excited to see Alex Kassian and @apiento tomorrow night in LA. Any forum folk going? Would like to say Hi!
Ah come say hello. P
Great fun c/o Japanese krautrock maestros Minami Deutsch this evening. 3rd or 4th time now. I never really have the words after one of these gigs. It’s such a trip. The Neu influence is obvious but there are also nods to symphonic prog rock, sabbath, techno and beyond. They work the crowd into a frenzy. It’s intense, immersive, exhilarating. The motorik sound plays with your senses and i’m a sucker for 20 minute excursions into the cosmos.
The warmup Brama were pretty decent too. French psychedelia from Clermont-Ferrand. One of them was playing a strange instrument that involved turning a lever round. At times it felt celtic, at others more fuzzy, weaving between drone effects and mystical harmonies. Which doesn’t do it justice. Ones to watch.
Was it a hurdy gurdy?
Fair ground ride… usually a horse one or camels
I am wondering how Todd Terje was in Brighton at the weekend. We bottled it and sold our tickets in the end. 11pm till 5am suddenly felt very daunting indeed.
Heading to this Friday at Strangebrew. Jay L & Andy Mac are super good DJs and this night is a continuation of the ‘Falling Up’ parties they used to put on waaaay back. Looking forward to getting lost for a good few hours.
See you there!!
haaa mint. Kernow crew assembling
That should be great. Will give it a go in the general sale scrum on Friday
Good luck! I just went for midweek slots thinking everyone would go for the Friday or the Thursday.
Aussie massive or otherwise - has anyone seen a show here? It looks incredible–just brilliant design and intimate. Small claims - we met Judith through friends and she is a real character with ideas for all kinds of projects…
Frankie and the Witch Fingers last night. Second time seeing them. They’re tighter than the London Symphony Orchestra, such a great band.
Went to the V&A storehouse this week, was OK as it’s local for me but might have been a bit disappointed if I’d travelled for it. The scope of items collected is mind-boggling but seemed to be dominated by old wooden sideboards. It does feel like the end scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark though so bonus points for that ![]()
Doing a double header of the Wes Anderson and Blitz exhibitions at the design museum next week.
