What you going to?

Was really tempted to go to that or even get the train down to Brighton for the screening there (today I think) but family sidelined it. Sounds like I didn’t miss much…

Yeah I wouldn’t recommend it. Perhaps I’m missing something. The content from 1980s NY was good, as it always is. The ‘getting the band back together’ bits, not so much. It just didn’t land with me. Another decent turnout though.

I was at this too. I know what you mean. Did quite enjoy it with Arthur and co in the house etc.

Made me want to pull this out when I got home. Forgot it was a Baker tune.

On a total whim, and less than two minutes after seeing an email, I’ve just bought two tickets for The Beta Band and The Flaming lips. It’s at a venue called Piece Hall in Halifax.
As I type, i’m hoping that’s in the north of England and not Nova Scotia.
I’ve never been to either before.

It’s on the 23rd July, which is the day before our wedding anniversary. Last year I took my wife to the 2nd day of the 3rd Test vs India at Old Trafford.

22 years in and I feel like i’m really nailing this anniversary thing.

Its a beautiful venue for gigs, one of the best I’ve been to. I’m quite tempted by the Flaming Lips gig myself.

Off to a secret Little Barrie & Malcom Catto gig in the basement of a guitar shop on Dennark St tonight. That album is unbelievable!

Gerd Jansen at Sub Club on 13 December.

People always assume that if you’re from Glasgow, that you’ll be in the Sub Club every weekend.

I’ve been going out in Glasgow for over 20 years and this will only be about my 15th time going. I’ve always had more fun at La Cheetah or The Berkeley Suite.

I see D Holmes is waitlist only already - I think it’s replacing a postponed show so presumably all those tickets are honoured
I think they’re both afternoon too (I might have to get over it and just go already)

Great fun c/o Japanese krautrock maestros Minami Deutsch this evening. 3rd or 4th time now. I never really have the words after one of these gigs. It’s such a trip. The Neu influence is obvious but there are also nods to symphonic prog rock, sabbath, techno and beyond. They work the crowd into a frenzy. It’s intense, immersive, exhilarating. The motorik sound plays with your senses and i’m a sucker for 20 minute excursions into the cosmos.

The warmup Brama were pretty decent too. French psychedelia from Clermont-Ferrand. One of them was playing a strange instrument that involved turning a lever round. At times it felt celtic, at others more fuzzy, weaving between drone effects and mystical harmonies. Which doesn’t do it justice. Ones to watch.

I am wondering how Todd Terje was in Brighton at the weekend. We bottled it and sold our tickets in the end. 11pm till 5am suddenly felt very daunting indeed.

Heading to this Friday at Strangebrew. Jay L & Andy Mac are super good DJs and this night is a continuation of the ‘Falling Up’ parties they used to put on waaaay back. Looking forward to getting lost for a good few hours.
