2008/09 maybe? I’ll check with Mike F ![]()
Public Enemy at the Royal Albert Hall later this month.
PE are a really special group for me, I absolutely love their first three albums. Yo! Bumrush the Show in particular means a lot to me, a favorite since it came out.
As soon as I saw they were playing, I jumped online and grabbed a ticket… only problem is, it was in the early hours after a heavy night of drinking, and I got a bit carried away and ended up booking one of the proper posh seats. Pretty sure the wife wouldn’t be too thrilled if she found out how much I spent… so yeah, it better be a great show!
Is this Start to End thing? They are playing up here later later that week, are they supposed to be good? Its one of my fav albums so a bit unsure about going.
Popped in to Primavera Sound last night and was immediately reminded why I absolutely detest that corporate carnival of sin. Didn’t help that Caribou were incredibly boring, a real shame as I liked one or two bits in years’ past. A few people in crowd were getting on it but the vibe generally felt flat. Was probably the third oldest there. Never again.
Yeah it did. Tickets were about 6 months in advance. Lineup about a week before the event!
There was an additional last minute release as some people had paid deposits and defaulted/changed plans I think.
I can’t see them not going again (fingers crossed), but would get in early for sure
Yeah I looked at that tribute thing and wondered the same. Just seen though that Paddy McAloon is doing his own Steve McQueen shows later in the year Martin McAloon | Musician
Edit - got carried away, it’s his brother!
I mean if it’s the original band it could be a lovely thing. Not sure how the lovely Dolby produced stuff will be done live but it could be great.
Edit - It’s a tribute band and they hide it really well. I think a few people are going to be like ‘wtf???’
I was at a car boot recently and someone was selling a pretty battered copy of It Takes A Nation Of Millions and I turned to the bloke selling it and said, “This record changed my life when I was 16. It opened up a world and history I had no life experience of and taught me things I had known nothing about.” And the bloke looked at me and said, “Yeah, I think I’ll keep it.” And we had a bit of a moment!
My neighbour was doing some late night concert browsing and decided to treat herself to a ticket to see Patti Smith. When she woke up in the morning she realised it was in Rotterdam.
She went anyway, legend.
Even the title is just so BIG. Amazing record.
Went to see the play Stereophonic last night. A fictionalised account of Fleetwood Mac making Rumours. Brilliant. All set in a recording studio with the cast playing original music (by the guy from Arcade Fire) which sounds v Rumours-esque. It’s very long at 3 hours but is totally engrossing. Excellent stuff.
This sounds really great from friends… will try and book tickets.
its so close to the real thing, the sound engineer and producer on rumours sued the producers of the play
I’ve taken a punt on tickets for this. Townshend is behind it, Paul Smith outfits etc, and they are using the score from his classical version from a few years back which I like, so hoping it’ll be good.
Not been to Sadlers Wells since the 80s for I Am Kurious Oranj!
Darren Emerson had some nice words about his gig last night at hang dai in Dublin… we will be seeing him in West Cork 2 weeks time
well done Darren on 8 months sober ![]()

I mainly run records at the George Tavern in Shadwell,
I’ve had some pretty good nights in here crowd wise, of all ages. This is for anyone who lives nearby, is up for bobbing down, i want to invite folk who are as mad about all this stuff as I.
I play a wide variety of musics…
Here’s some floaters that I like,
Possibly going and a heads up.
Saw it in Plymouth last weekend. Stunning production/effects on top of the amazing dancers (particularly Ace Face). Never been the ballet so, can’t compare to anything but, really enjoyed it. One incredibly emotional scene too. You’ll soon know it when it starts.
Great, thanks
