What you going to?

It is brilliant how Bill and Frank have refreshed the crowd - this is the third generation of Low Lifers. Obviously I don’t play there any more, which was sort of an organic thing rather than any big decision, but couldn’t be happier to see it continue to flourish with younger (women) residents.

I really valued the community that emerged out of it and am still mates with a few. Mike F was over here a few weeks back and saw Mark & Emily a couple of years back. Still listen to Mark Pringle’s Rock’s Backpages podcast when I can too. That unmistakable voice! Afters were usually pretty funny. Cannot envisage any social setting now where I would be asking “Are you Dr Strangefruit?”

No but I’m going to Fabric on Sunday for Theo Parrish  One of my old team works there and she said they’ve recently upgraded the room 1 sound system.

I’m sure Laurent Garnier + Fabric would be fun !

For me personally as a DJ playing there it really peaked around 2007/8 and I honestly can’t remember better parties from my years out dancing/DJing. Fantastic crowd and a great mix of music. Never ever pretentious and always brilliant fun. I met so many lovely down to earth and friendly people doing LL, and feel so privileged to have been a part of it for around 15 years pretty much.

Ron Trent had to cancel tonight… His mother passed away :pensive:

Oh sorry to hear that and very sad for Ron Trent :slightly_frowning_face:

Theo Parrish was on fire @ Fabric yesterday.

First time seeing him but i remember all the hype when he did a residency at Plastic People. Played across genres, from ron hardy type disco edits, to acid to funk to afro with the occasional classic thrown in (e.g. Kerri Chandler’s Inspiration) and could get pretty hard on occasion  Didn’t know 95% of it but loved it all.

BUT…he absolutely red lined the Fabric system > just way too loud and too distorted. I wore earplugs and still had ears ringing this morning.

Surely that’s what the sound engineer is there for?

Thanks for the report, I was hoping to go myself but couldn’t make it. Sounds fun but that red zoning seems to be a Theo speciality unfortunately. Maybe a Fabric issue too? The last time I went there was for the Body and Soul night a few years ago and the system was distorting in room 1. We ended up finding a staff member and lobbying them to sort it which they eventually did to be fair but it should be club 101 to be on top of that stuff…

Went to the Fabric / Ron Trent on Saturday - Sadar Bahar and MCDE covered instead.
Really wasn’t feeling Sadar - everything was SO fast / pitched up. MCDE was good moving between house / disco all evening with ease. System in room 1 sounded pretty crap to me - only a few spots on the floor where it sounded acceptable. First time I’d been to Fabric in 20 years - I guess I’m just the wrong demographic - but really not for me.

Ironically that’s also the last time I went to Fabric !

I remember then thinking the sound system didn’t really work with the disco and real instrument orientated music. Although do remember it sounding great for the Danny Krivit edit of Voyage-Lady America played at the end.

Theo was a lot louder than that. My ears have only just recovered.

Two tickets available for Fat Freddy’s Drop at the Roundhouse in Camden tomorrow night (Friday). I can’t go as my Dad’s needed an unexpected operation so I’m up on the Wirral with him. Let me know if you fancy it
