The honours system.
Gongs (of some sort) for Carl Cox, Judge Jules and Cerys Matthews (amongst many others). Hasn’t Matthews also voiced some strong anti royalty views in the past?
Just don’t get it, and what the point of it is. A relic of the past.

A BBC reporter using the term “people with legitimate concerns” to describe the pogroms.
Interesting that it appears to be solely in unionist/loyalist areas (unless I’ve missed the reporting that suggests otherwise).

Yeah a lot of, absolutely awful behaviour, but…
Any talk of genuine concerns should be treated with utter disdain when you’re protest is targeting anyone of a different race, religion or nationality, and burning them out of homes.
No, it was exclusively in Loyalist areas by people (organised by paramilitaries that are a cancer in these communities) have a lot of previous.

It’s been disgusting this week, really horrible. Whilst most of the rioting has been in loyalist areas both sides have been united in hate and I’ve seen sicking behaviour across the board. Multiple messages circulated in both communities organising a joint approach with their “Christian brothers” (direct quote) sanctioned by paramilitary leadership. It’s all orchestrated with alot of coercion of younger people going on.

Just to add, there’s an anti racism march today in town and I expect a huge turnout. A small charity which supports women who’ve migrated to ni, set up a fund to help anyone affected and it’s currently raised 250k in a couple of days, so there’s plenty of goodwill out there too!

The immigration issue does cross the old tribal lines, but the level of violence and outright racism is deeply rooted in within the loyalist paramilitaries. Absolute scumbags

Can someone explain why Prime Ministers in the UK step down? Are they pushed out by their party, or because they can’t see a way forward with their mandate?

Usually starts with the cabinet, few resign then it can just snowball and be over very quickly. Some try and tough it out and take it to a vote. Some others just realise they don’t have the support and call it a day. We’ll see which way it goes for Burnham in a year(!) or so

Also, political enemies are almost always within their own party. The old knife in the back and jostle for positions.
