Can’t remember the last time i had 6Music on, tbh, and it used to be on pretty much constantly a few years ago.
Says it all really.

Me neither. Probably been five years or more since I last had it on. Much prefer NTS and the like…
There are so many great independent radio stations now to either listen live, or via their mixcloud/SoundCloud that 6 music is redundant.
Used to always tune in for Giles but catch him Thursday on Wwfm now, so Mr Pedro on nts is my go to Saturday afternoon listen when he’s on.
the BBC news breaks were another reason to ditch 6 music
I have the radio on constantly in work and used to like some of the chat with the likes of Radcliffe and even Shaun Keaveney.
Used to have it on from 7 in the morning until 4 when Steve ‘wear your Carter USM t shirt to work’ fucking Lamacq came on. Now I sometimes listen to Lauren Laverne and that’s it.
Internet radio it’s Loose, NTS, 1BTN, Openlab or FIP Groove.
Garvey started on XFM Manchester about 20 years ago & he wasn’t too bad then, he used to have a show just after Tony Wilson’s show from what I remember, but he’s become unbearable on 6 music with his regular name dropping, every famous person he’s ever met, or been in the same room as more likely, is "a good friend’ of his apparently.
Having had the misfortune of working on a couple of things with him I can confirm Letts is a bell end of the highest order.
Rude, arrogant and don’t let him anywhere near your girlfriend
Agree- very twee- but of all the shows I at least get the sense that some work goes into it -which can’t be said of all of them
Letts constant on air references to himself as the ‘Rebel Dread’ amuses me, how much of a rebel can you truly be when you’ve been on the BBC’s teat for decades, the most middle class, middle England, Establishment corporation in the country?
Side note, but Craig Charles put out some hilariously low-effort landfill edits a few years back, can’t have taken any longer than 1 hour to put together. Essentially slapped a filter and a kick drum on the You Sexy Thing intro and looped it for 6 minutes.
Wow, theyre awful
Iggy Pop’s show is always worth a listen, I think. Less for the music, but more for the stories- some of which I imagine have the Radio 6 W1A top brass sweating over the content …
which is on the Sing 2 soundtrack my daughter was playing the other day and that was a bit of a moment. Thought my 9-year-old had stories to tell but it segued into Billie Eilish before I could work out what dimension I had been transported to.
I like the old man bantz of Radcliffe and Maconie but a lot of that is now self referential about how they dont fit in - the go to of every DJ since Wogan complaining about the quality of tea in the BBC Canteen - and once a year its nice to hear them play ‘It was a good day’ and imagine Stuart nodding along to the bit about ‘pulled out the jammy and killed the punani’ while he’s finishing the Guardian Crossword.
Internet Radio is the way to go, and Elaine Paige on Sundays for some proper Diva oddities in music and chat.
First heard Manny from my daughters - I assumed it was a Yorkshire thing cos that’s where we live (although we’re not from there). They shorten the names for all the places here- Donnie, Brid, Pock, Sheff, Wakey, Scarbs etc. Leeds is already short so no need there
But it could well be a southern social media thing. If it annoys the Mancs can’t be all bad (only kidding)
Bobby Gillespie effect. Socialist in public, Tory in private.
I miss having a regular show to listen to every week. Last ones i used to check for was Trevor Nelson on Radio 2 (nice mix of 60s-00s soul and R&B) and Paul Trouble Anderson (RIP) on MiSoul. More for just harmless background music that suited me + the mrs than anything else. That was about 10 years ago.
Macca and Ross for the Saturday morning into PM. Flo for breakfast in the week. Just hope they don’t get poached like Zakia…
Ah… I know what you mean, Tad and Cas etc etc, although I think shortening Harrogate is prohibited by Royal Decree (even if you could)
