What don't you get

Happy to name and shame too. The Record Shop (thoughtful name) in Amersham did this to me for a couple of 12”s that were in non-priced yet boxes under the racks…had to wait for and watch them call up Discogs then price them at their median price :man_facepalming:t2:

Edit: I’ve sold records to them once and know they pay peanuts :peanuts: and I know they need to make profit but…

I always try and goggle the area for record shops, I opted for not even visiting that one despite it being ten minutes drive away. The irony is that they list on discogs so could process and put everything into inventory as it comes in easily.

Good to know! I nearly went in there when I was visiting in January, our friends have a wine shop right around the corner. Looked a classic spot.

Labour tracking ever Right. It’s never ever going to work, you can’t out Far Right Farage and Co.

Imagine for a moment had they chosen instead to enact the ‘change’ they said they’d be whilst campaigning and tracked to the Left. Taxing the ultra-wealthy and corporations. Working class people have been shat on for decades. They could have made a material difference to people’s lives instead they are just the Continuity Tories.

I wasn’t expecting much to be honest. I got suspended by the PLP in 2017 for supporting Corbyn openly on Twitter and gave up my membership immediately, and I can only imagine the exodus they’re seeing this morning with members utterly disgusted by the Enoch Powell style rhetoric.

Sidenote. Yvette Cooper has somehow managed to become the most reprehensible Labour politician, and that’s some fucking going when Wes Streeting is still around.

Shame on them and a pox on all of their second houses. :expressionless:

That stuff on immigration from Starmer yesterday was truly shameful. It was Powell-esque in its rhetoric 100%. Not even a hint around the benefits of immigration and what it has brought to the country. As someone who has been involved with the care industry for the last 6 years I can’t begin to think who they are expecting to pick up the slack in vacancies, the demographic of staff has slowly shifted from eastern European to south Asian and east African, if the visa is being removed the industry is shafted. I suspect it will be quietly removed from his pledges.

Here’s the transcript - just looked it up myself as all I can see online is “island of strangers” quote.

The context is important - but people can read for themselves.

My Mum is in a nursing home, everyone of the assistants/carers are from overseas mainly from Africa. They are great with her, so compassionate and pleasant. Like you say the whole thing would be in (more) chaos without them. I often feel guilty about Mum and wonder what they must think of our culture/way of living in relation to our seniors.

… not to get too into it, but I don’t think the context is just the rest of the speech. the wider context is the Labour Party tacking further right and aping reform to try and save themselves politically. it’s disgusting (and bound to fail by any measure).

Same situation for me. The staff are great, I have mentally wrestled with the whole thing but being cared for by me is just impossible given her complex needs, our relationship over time and my own situation.

Apart from the dodgy racist content it’s also just such crap politics. I can’t imagine any former Labour voter who has gone to Reform will be convinced by any of this as they despise Starmer. They’re wasting that massive majority.

i used to work in recruitment in the care sector. It’s not one staff member you would need to replace but 1.5 at least to replace most workers from overseas due to the hours they cover. On a personal level, i loved meeting people from so many places and learning a bit about the variety of countries/cultures.

That’s a good point re the hours. Many years ago I used to be an ESOL tutor and felt the same, endlessly fascinated by people’s back stories and their hopes, aspirations and cultures.

Would be nice if instead of panicking and trying to be more like Reform, Labour went all in and spent a few weeks solidly opposing Farage and telling everyone hes a cunt and why. Actually treat the oppostion like the opposition and not like your new girlfriend’s racist family that you dont want to upset.

Very good way of putting it!

Instead Labour have decided to be the opening act for Reform, who undoubtedly will get in to power in some form or another shortly. It’s so fucking depressing…

My heart goes out to you. My mum was in a care home during lockdown with dementia while I was in another country and was her only « kid ». Dad already passed away.

It was very tough and there was a lot of other really bad stuff going on. Like your experience, mine was that the carers - mainly « foreign » - were beautiful humans who did their best every day and they made an awful situation bearable. This was borne out when I was able to visit when my mum passed away and I got to spend that critical time with her. The carers all remembered me from the phone calls and from mum talking about me. Don’t feel guilty. It adds nothing and only distracts from spending quality time - even if over the phone- with your mum. Focus on the good memories and keep reminding her of them. You’ll even surprise yourself at all the good stuff that’s buried away!

Wishing you fortitude. We are all foreign. All tourists. All temporary. Shine on in the meantime!! :sun_with_face:

Farage is such an easy target too - all manner of things they can go after him on - yet labour ( + the Tories before them) seem to run scared of him stealing their voter base rather than sticking to whatever principles it is they claim to have and trying to fight back a bit

As soon as Labour announced they would be sticking to the Tory fiscal rules, it was clear which way this was heading. The same fiscal rules that have reduced public services to a shell, led to the death of 400,000 citizens and a stagnating economy

Thanks del, appreciate your words. Its been a long struggle with both my mum and the care system, finally got full funding last summer after years of battling with the health authorities.
