What don't you get

It is fun to shake your fist at the sky occasionally though.

I don’t really hang on what anyone says anymore. A few decent tunes and vibe for the grown-ups is all I ask for, whether that’s a city shebeen, Mediterranean temple or rural idyll in arse end of nowhere.

People who walk around in public spaces, phones held flat by their mouth, voicenoting their entire morning like they are making a podcast.

As an aside:
My teenage daughter listens to everything (everything!) on x2 speed and I thinks it because so many people voicenote such banal shit.

I sort of want to do it (if I’m honest) as typing is a pain and I have to stop and stand in a corner to type :joy:
But I know I would waffle for 15 minutes just like everyone else.

I hate people leaving me f-ing two min voice notes about absolutely nothing at all. But I’m guilty of doing it myself :grimacing:

The pricing and packaging of digital music. Don’t get it.

I think there’s a decent conversation to be had about this. It’s so wildly inconsistent, keeps creeping up, and personally I’m increasingly feeling ripped off for trying to actually buy music when practically no one else is. Just me?

I’m not surprised- how else you gonna get paid on digital releases? You’re gonna get next to fuck all from streaming platforms let’s face it.

I don’t mind paying a bit more for a digital release from an independent artist/label-they have very few revenue streams open to them

If it’s more than £1 a track I don’t buy it

Yeah I agree. It’s bollocks.

Yes, exactly

This is interesting as it feels like that price was set by Steve Jobs in 2004 or something - but it still holds as a mental anchor price

I understand that it’s not gonna go down well with the producers & DJs on here but times are tough right now (for me at least) & much as I love music, it’s a luxury.

On the plus side you have to be more picky bout what you buy… bit like vinyl… will I still listen to this in ten yrs? etc

Which in an era of digital landfill is a sort of plus

Same here, I have about a tenner a month - the agony of choice!

General question, perhaps naive and apologies if so… I don’t stream music, I buy it digitally. I understand Bandcamp is the best for the artist and use it most of the time, however Juno download prices are way cheaper. Are they robbing the artist blind? Or is the extra that you pay on Bandcamp getting syphoned off somewhere else (BC Fridays excluded). Ta.

Juno DL isn’t cheaper if you’re buying lossless though, is it?

Plus with BC, it’s in your collection forever, with no limits on how many times you can DL (if needed)

Also, if times are tough, then you definitely want to avoid Soulseek and the Seeker app.

I thought soulseek was easily avoided years ago? I had drives full of stuff from that place in the d/l years. :grimacing:

There’s a track I have my eye on on Bandcamp. Can only be bought as part of a package. The other 2 tracks in the package are essentially a radio edit and something that almost nobody would be interested in listening to. It’s a scam so they can charge £6 for a song. It’s in my wishlist daring me to push the button on it’s purchase, but im staying strong. For now!

Some edit merchants charge £2.50 a pop on Bandcamp for thelr ‘edit’. I dont mind if its something fresh and interesting but when they’ve just added a few bongos and a kick drum its a liberty
