I think some eulogies are more sincere than they appear. You might never have posted anything about say Tony Hart or Floella Benjamin but their passing would still instil an immediate childhood nostalgia.
The worst ‘grief tourism’ imo is people latching on to someone cool they obviously had no interest in…
Just putting this here as the thread has a lot of views…
Those 1970’s 80’s maybe nineties clear PVC plastic record sleeves. They do warp, discolour and ruin the vinyl so get them in the bin. Just a BT express album that has rotted in my ownership but get them binned asap as you may have them on some expensive albums.
I took all plastic sleeves and any shrink wrap of my entire collection years ago. Not only do they look and feel better, they’re in no risk of vinyl cancer from petroleum in sleeves etc.
What are your thoughts regarding the Japanese rounded clear plastic inner sleeves? They’re a bit of a faff to use but being how much care that the Japanese take with everything I would think that they’re better for storing records than paper sleeves?
I have a pack of those Japanese sleeves I found in a box of records. I only use them when I run out of poly lined paper sleeves, maxiumum faff. The only issue with the polylined is the hole in the centre gets paper torn as you pull out a new sleeve from the pack. Pays to shop around but I have to buy 100 to 200 at a time to get a price break.
TBH plain paper may be no worse, I’ve just got into the habit of buying these as I normally have to clean some mouldy records and re sleeve.
Beach ball vibes for sure on this one and the print of Elton secretes on to the vinyl as does the chemicals from the plastic rendering the vinyl a crackling playback mess.
Apparently it’s called Off Gassing from the PVC covers that affects the vinyl.
