I’ve become increasingly concerned with some online companies’ business practices lately.
A few weeks ago I bought some Birkenstocks on Very. They arrived in the wrong size. I’m an 8, they sent an 11.5. I used their returns process and sent them back. Thought I was having a senior moment and had ordered the wrong ones.
As they don’t seem to have an exchange policy, only refunds, I immediately placed an order for the correct size and paid. When I checked the order confirmation, the size was 11.5, so I immediately cancelled the order. Awaiting a refund.
Stupidly, I placed another order, only to receive an order confirmation for yet another size 11.5. On this occasion I couldn’t cancel the order and had to wait for it to be dispatched and I’ve literally only just sent them back.
The customer service agent I spoke to didn’t know what day it was let alone how they were going to deal with my enquiry. I was told my refunds would be processed “in due course” which I find wholly unacceptable, not being given a timeframe. At this point I’ve spent over £200. Here’s where it gets really insane. I was told that, as my size was out of stock (despite being able to order it three times) their system had allocated the next available size. Not a mistake. A system feature. Ludicrous. The fuck am I going to do with a shoe three and a half sizes too big??
They conveniently have no email address to speak of in terms of customer complaints. Just an automated chat bot and a customer service number. The agents just aren’t interested. I feel like I’m going in circles trying to get my money back.

Be ‘Very’ wary!
Customer service at most (all) large firms is generally terrible. I spent 45 mins on the phone to O2 last week trying to get a QR code to activate my sim. Thought that would be fairly straight forward but after being put on hold for the 3rd or 4th i just hung up. Eventually sorted it myself somehow.
Had beef with Virgin Media a couple of years ago. They are the absolute worst. Ombudsman found in my favour.
Oh Christ they really are. I’ve had ‘fun’ with them before.
Just cancelled my Virgin gym membership and withheld my last payment. They’d put my monthly membership up by £30 and moved me from an ‘off peak’ price to an ‘anytime’ price. All part of the service apparently to give me more flexibility.
How about fuck off! Still using the gym until someone stops me.
Ordered a very expensive bag for daughters 21st from Matches, wife used to use them all the time, stuff arrives in a lovely box etc… they get in new CEO, daughters bag arrives in self seal poly bag. Complain, told that’s how they do things now, not very prem I say etc. They send me £10 voucher. Next week or so they went bust.
