Have to agree
Some very bland records on Talkin Loud and this inoffensive ‘coffee table’ blandness does extend to some of the stuff he plays on his 6 music show still imo… But then every so often he’ll play something mind blowing

Pretty much sums up where I was at around mid to late 90s. Really enjoyed his early BBC Radio Shows. A real mixture of jazz, soul, rare groove, and decent house / techno tunes.
Recently I’ve found myself moving away from his shows. I put it down to him having his own platform and therefore free reign in terms of what he plays. Every now and then he’ll play a blinder (The Top 20’s lockdown shows were ace), but these days, more often than not, I’m pressing fast forward. Perhaps a little too self indulgent at times.
Haven’t listened to his show in ages but always used to find the first and last half hour were great and the bit inbetween was very dull… Having said that, remember him really smashing it at Southport a few times around the year 2000
Had a studio at #83 early 90’s, no heating, had to go Barley Mo to warm up at lunchtime, didn’t feel like the center of anywhere tbh. ![]()
Seeing someone on TikTok say Deep Burnt isn’t played enough and being told I’m exaggerating when I replied that surely everyone has heard it countless times by now?! ![]()

Ha! I saw that too. I was almost triggered, but stopped myself from commenting. Glad someone did. It’s been rinsed!
I was told by a reliable source that ‘Days Like These’ once was heard being played on three stages simultaneously at SunceBeat.
The horror… the horror…
My first thought was the Van Morrison track and I thought “what are the chances?! Three DJs all digging deep, I wonder if they were all cover versions or something”
Then I thought again and realised! ![]()
Do love that tune though!
…and West End Musical fact Shaun was Mufasa in The Lion King for a bit.
“Here comes the suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!”

There’s another thing I don’t get. Van Morrison.
Irritates the hell out of me… I feel like his singing voice is really contrived.
Like the ultimate pub singer.
You wouldn’t be living or laughing in the bath with a toaster on ![]()
That’s more like it!
Whilst we’re about it any version of Runaway brings me out in hives.
Promised land for me. Hideous.
Jesus! Is nothing sacred? ![]()
Strings of Life… specially the DK one.
Same same. Always completely did my head in.
I was sick of hearing Promised Land 30 plus years ago. “It’s Alright” I couldn’t stand to hear for decades but listened to it last year and it was a nice moment of nostalgia. But probably won’t listen to it again for another few years.
