What don't you get

Any meal that has something you don’t eat yearround needs to be added to the list. Turkey at Thanksgiving for example, etc.

Aah man, where I live I dream of a Sunday roast

Tend to agree the effort/washing up vs taste/satisfaction/enjoyment isn’t quite there.

See also the fry up (joins you behind cover).

This is more of a ‘cringe’ than ‘don’t get’, but corporation wankers trying to be all ‘hip hop’ and down with the kids.

“Hey! Like MF Doom? Why not ‘Cop’ the vinyl!?”

Fuck off!

Imagine a Sunday morning fry up followed by a belly busting Sunday lunch :astonished:

:astonished: Sacrilege!

I LOVE a Sunday Roast. Nice walk and a few pints to build up that appetite, and as many crispy, delicious, fluffy potatoes and yorkshire puds as you can possibly handle, all held together with gravy so thick you can stand a spoon up in it.

I’ve actually cooked a ‘roast for one’ on occasions.

The number of utensils used gets a bit daft, and the inevitable washing up is a chore, I must admit.

Easier to cut out the prepping, cooking, washing up by going out for it :man_shrugging:

Well there’s that, but I can get pretty ‘judgy’ when it comes to roast potatoes.

It amazes me how serious people take their roasties. Social media feeds are full of people boasting how good their potatoes are.

Surely, the star of the show on a Sunday lunch should be the meat?

I’ve tried for years to perfect Sharwarma and always failed miserably - not even getting anywhere close.

Then came across a local genuine Lebanese place that sells it cheaper (in samoon bread) than I can buy the ingredients for, let alone making it, washing up etc.

It’s a defeat I am happy to concede.

Ha ha yeah. It’s a national pastime. They may as well give up anyway. Mine are the best.

So my best friend has ended his marriage and come out as gay all in the space of 3 months. It appears he told his wife and kids a year or so ago. I’m presuming so they had some time to get their heads around it all, before the announcement.
They are incredibly supportive… well… the kids are. His wife understandably still seems a little bereft. I’m good friends with them both and trying to support as best I can.

Anyway, I digress massively.

I was round his for dinner yesterday and whilst he was cooking a lovely roast , he told me he’s back in the dating game. He then proceeded to show me some of the guys he’s been chatting with on Hinge (dating app). One of them had a tagline “Gemma Collins is my religion!”.

What is it about this woman? Has she actually done anything other than say “nah mate” and fallen over? I just don’t get it.

Naturally, I did what any mate would do in this situation. I unmatched for him whilst he was peeling the carrots.

Cannot fucking stand that woman.

Edit - GC, obvs, not your mate’s ex.

The DOOM thing in particular is very weird to me, seeing how its gone from obscure underground rapper in the late 90s, to moderately well known underground rapper in the early 00s, and now approaching increasing levels of hype beast type notoriety in the past few years with every reissue and tshirt.

To think the slogan on those early Fondle Em 12s was “no promotion, no sticker, no marketing”

I discovered DOOM through Madlib. I was hoovering up everything he’d produced before Madvillainy (Quasimoto etc). I’d fallen out with hip hop before then, and Madlib renewed my interest and gave a fresh perspective. That led to me investigating more DOOM and buying up all the Czarface, Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah records etc.

I recall DOOM being lauded a fair bit when he was alive, but since his passing, it’s snowballed. Which is great. His entire back catalogue seems to have been repressed again recently, and tik tok seems to be all over it. Hope his family are getting the royalties.

I guess I shouldn’t moan really. Hopefully the money is going to the right people. If it’s not, then f*ck you Amazon!

Not sure of the point I’m trying to make, but could the resurgence of interest simply boil down to the fact that the word is easier to spread. There’s also a finite body of work there to assess now which helps us decide that he was one of the greatest rappers? (cue socials). Same happened with Dilla. Shame it all has to happen posthumously.

He was a big deal in underground hip hop circles in the early 00s but that was very separate from the mainstream at the time so if you were listening to Jay Z, Nas, DMX etc theres a good chance Doom was not on your radar at all. Now thats flipped on its head. Weirdly Kanye was one of the ones that briefly bridged the gap between the two scenes.

I think Kanye is vastly underrated by a lot of people.
