What don't you get

That’s what I don’t get. When I was growing up, Neil Diamond was considered to be shit by anyone with a modicum of taste, even if he did have some songwriting chops. When and why did “Sweet Caroline” become a thing? I first noticed it around a decade ago–you’d be in a bar and some bro-y types would drunkenly sing the song in a certain way (emphasizing the horn line - duh! duh! duh!) and now it seems to be inescapable in certain situations.

I know this guy by name only, this is the first time i have ever clicked on a link to see what he sounded like and i was sort of expecting something more like this tbh

I liked the bit where he did the air guitar with his sax though, very rock n roll.

I know I’m getting old but I genuinely worry for the kids ! I think the internet/mobile phones/social media has just left them with a massive attention deficit…so nothing ever gets the chance to properly breathe. Almost all my fav music took a number of listens to to really clicks and appreciate.

I went to the closing night at Printworks - saw Dj Koze, Roisin Murphy, Dixon, Peggy Gou & Bicep.

But by far the biggest reaction of the entire night (and by some way) was Folamour playing Abba…f*king ABBA!

I felt like I was back at a bad school disco (just with better lights)

Can’t believe he’s still going lol

the kids haven’t grown up in the regular clubs largely because so many shut down + maybe there’s less E culture now? that probably feeds the impatience and I guess a lot of DJs - even respectable ones - have to comply to A. keep the floor and B. keep getting booked. Soon enough what ‘we’ knew as acid house will be a distant memory. Does it matter? Well it’s obv daft to preach. Everyone has to follow their own path, but it would be sad if the positive collective spirit that emerged from the 80s/90s centered around precious music has finally been lost

i know the boston red sox were using it as a closing song after wins during those world series-era years.

that might explain the overlap between bros/sports bars/neil diamond?

Not sure about the ‘culture’ but E’s were definitely in full force at Printworks…looked like almost everyone was on something (and lots of blatant coke taking).

I think we’re all old enough to hear to know that things go in cycles. So in a similar way that I got really into the David Mancuso / The Loft leggacy and discovered all the 70s and 80s disco in the late 90s…I’m sure another generation will re-discover acid house etc (which maybe already slowly starting to happen).

Sorry appreciate this is a little bit old man shouting at clouds

This whole Power Slap sport.

What an absolutely ridiculous thing to get involved in.

i always confuse it with the monkees daydream believer, beloved anthem of the beer swilling rugger buggers in my student union

I think you’re right. There’s a whole load of the youth who’ve got great style and brilliant taste in music. I guess there’s just less of them and the parties are smaller/more underground.

It gets played during the 7th inning stretch.

I googled this trumpet to see what the deal is. He’s Australian but speaks in faux American accent. He’s also 41, and should know better. He has a lot of videos where he is prankish his tour manager and acting like a proper knobhead. That’s as far as I got.

sounds like that partiboi69 guy. Another australian who gives off the impression of being a terrible human being with a massive drug problem.

Jesus it’s like footage from the end of the world
