We still have an annual Faith Xmas Breakfast with varying degrees of attendance, but it’s usually JimmyP. Scottie, Mozzer, BlockUp, Duncan, myself and a few assorted other reprobates who can be arsed to meet at 7am in one of the few boozers serving food and ales at that time of the morning.
I was longtime on Faith but have never actually met anyone
I had Alexis P Suter ( of Dirty Lowdown) as my user name & a solicitor sent me a PM telling me to desist
Haha I think the same thing happened when Balearic Mike wrote as ‘Linda di Franco’
Oh wow!
That’s a more Balearic desist than mine , but mine is more house - As they say
I did enjoy the Faith forum, I wasn’t a huge contributor as ‘Cookie’ but I dipped in and out and had some good laughs on there
are BlockUp’s mixes still up on Soundcloud? I thought I had them saved, but can’t see them… Combat 88 i think was the account?
I was never sure the whole mnml Romanian thing wasn’t just a wind up, never really got it. Was it just when K started to be big?
I hated that scene. Was unfortunate enough to be in DC10 one time when Raresh was on, it was the same monotonous beat for 5 hours. Never understand why the Faith lot fell into it so big
There were bits of minimal I liked eg Stimming, that Audion/Hot Chip remix, the Villalobos rmx of sinner in me but 98% of it was dystopian aural fascism that no amount of chemicals could really atone for
The worst (a crowded field…) minimal gig I recall was Locodice and Matthias Tanzmann in 2009 during the great mdma drought when all sorts of rat poison was being punted instead. Something so joyless and nihilistic about that night. Bad acid at Altamont energy.
I have a few from Combat 88.

Villalobos Children, some of them would have sold a kidney for it at the time.
There were some good records for sure.
Rej
Luciano mix of Argy
Mouth to Mouth
Dopplewhipper (!?)
Erotic Discourse
Trentemoller
Etc
It was more the Romanian thing I was referring to
Rej was huge, one of that dying breed of crossover tracks that everyone played (does that ever happen now?). I was never sure if Rej ripped off Moodymann Dem Young Sconies although another school says it owed as much to Isolee Beau Mot Plage? Hmm… I thought Ame and Dixon were really interesting at the beginning - like a German take on Detroit - but they got proggier over time
Some nice deep bits on earlier Poker Flat 12’s.
I met him in New York, worked for Bloomberg if I remember correctly. Nothing like his online persona.
To be fair to Elliot - and, yes, attention seeking gobshite is accurate - he started doing the sauce thing when he was out of work and had to support his family so fair play to him. I’ve tried all of them, mostly out of curiosity and they’re decent. Plus Pete Fowler artwork is a nice bonus.
i think i was following him on twitter when he first started doing the sauce thing (which is funny in itself, no offense to anyone here but when i think premium hot sauce, i don’t think manchester - ) and i wasn’t sure if it was a serious thing or not! but right around then it just seemed like dude was way too online and spitting invectives in every direction. he seemed to get real territorial about the sauce market.
here in the states, there’s just a stupid amount of hot sauces. go to any tourist town (especially in the south) and there will be sauce stores that carry thousands of brands - i suspect that there’s probably only a few dozen formulas, but it’s probably real easy to partner with a provider who will put your custom artwork on the label and allow you to sell it under your own stupid name (and they’re almost ALWAYS stupid names - “OBAMA BUTTHOLE BLOWOUT FIVE ALARM GIT R’ DONE SAUCE” etc.) so the notion that someone could corner the market on sauces (or even try) seemed extra funny to me.
I loved most releases from Mountain People but I swear every one sounded the same. I’ve always liked the monotonous groove though.
Workshop had some amazing stuff out round that time too. Kasseme Mosse LP still sounds class
