I’m very fearful for this next US election cycle. Just the sheer chance that Trump has a shot at office makes me drink heavily. If it ain’t Trump we are looking at DeSantis who is as batshit crazy, or Mike Pence who is a religious nut. Can’t win with US politics, all a big money show.

Seems crazy that Biden is running again and that he hasn’t spent the last year encouraging a new younger generation to step up. He looks so old and fragile. Worrying for us all!
Are any other Democrats gonna stand up? Where are the Kennedys of the world right now? young, intelligent, dynamic… There’s nothing to inspire.

Things I don’t get: The Kennedy’s were terrifying. JFK has to be in the top 5 worst US presidents. I mean sure he was white, good looking, well-connected, had great hair and was smooth talking. But among other things he took the world to the brink of nuclear war through blundered handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, was an openly misogynist predator, followed unnecessarily aggressive foreign policy, only moved on civil rights after his hand was forced by years of escalating protests, etc. etc. Genuine question but what did he actually do of consequence that was his initiative? He was such a good study of an entire nation swooning and looking the other way because he sweet-talked them and batted his eyelids. The “happy birthday Mr President” thing makes me sick to think of how his partner must’ve been feeling inside. The rest of the family had some pretty shaky moments too. Or have I got them all wrong?

Yep, he was a pretty right wing typical American president, just younger and more marketable, Americans loved him. Carter was progressive and the most hated of any president in modern times(within America, but has since won several Nobels and worked ceaselessly for the vulnerable on the planet), which speaks volumes.

As absolutely batshit as this sounds you’d almost rather have Trump than DeSantis. Trump can still f be e held somewhat in check by those around him and he gets very little done because he’s truly his own worst enemy. Chances of causing a civil war though are high.
DeSantis is a zealot who truly isn’t that smart. He’s prone to tantrums, burns through staff and has so many laws that are purposely vague enough that people are implementing them based on their own understanding which is terrifying. Him on a national level would break this country.
The US political scene isn’t the best, and much like the UK is purposely incompetent but with much larger capital gains to be made. The Democratic Party is center-right and truthfully the republicans when you remove all the noise are in the same band on the spectrum maybe a notch or two down at most. They each have their own masthead agendas that keep their constituents in their respective lanes but it’s very telling what bills breeze through the senate unopposed. You only hear about the ones that could potentially put people into another lane, but the real evil things happen quite freely.
Maybe this is a little too close to what I do for a living but take the time to read any bill that people are trying to get through the senate. Every single one has money earmarked to make a group of people very wealthy or they remove funding from another group’s initiatives, etc. it’s all buried in there and it’s the little who gets the cash in the bills that holds it up. And because the system is designed to be 50/50 essentially it means that anyone who on the senate is a swing voter stands to make a lot of money. Look at Manchin from West Virginia. He’s a coal mining executive who is vehemently opposed to any climate change bills and who loves the camera lights. He’s easily the most powerful man in the senate when anything needs a swing vote and if you ever go to DC and wonder who on earth has that giant yacht in the marina it’s his. The currently debt ceiling bill has his natural gas pipeline in it that he stands to make millions from. It’s all corrupt.
Biden will run because his grossly inflated ego won’t allow him not to. It is almost impossible for someone to to emerge to challenge a sitting president from within their own party. The machine isn’t built for it. Although I will say that Kamala Harris is deeply unpopular so if there is going to any chance it’ll be there.
And no one younger is emerging because the ones that could possibly emerge may actually be progressive and the Democratic Party isn’t ready for that yet. It’s coming though, the voters are getting more progressive as they start coming of age but there’s also a lot of apathy amongst the younger voters which is worrying. The way Biden became the nominee and Bernie was unceremoniously shoved out in the dark of night did more damage to the party than I truly think they realize. That and Obama being a complete disappointment to the inner city.
And people like AOC are actually being marginalized more by their own party than by the opposition,

I too was a little underwhelmed when I listened to the album tbh. The track Oxygen is good. Plus from the earlier tracks I love Still River Flow (although poss Damian’s dub of it more than original). As mentioned below the Crooked Man version of Phoenix is excellent. Perhaps the rest will grow on repeated listens.

I couldn’t put my finger on why I didn’t like this album, but you’ve got it. It’s just very bland. It triggers next to no emotion in me.

I was all prepared for it to be balearic by numbers bland but was actually pleasantly surprised, maybe the excellent weather in the UK at the moment is helping it along as it seems to fit perfectly.
