(I like this record btw)

Also curious as to what you mean by this

THIS is what I mean. And this track is from 2023. Enough already

and yes - this is almost an identical pattern and drum tone to the example I just posted. Unimaginative and forgettable. Despite that track being a grail to many, the remix doesn’t serve it well. Definitely not Balearic haha

I like all these skippy hi-hat examples, quite a lot

the laziest, most pointless thing I’ve heard recently. Marta Acuna isn’t even acknowledged in the blurb

Didn’t Dave Lee do this at some point? Same lyrics etc.

I was going to write this but I’m sure on this forum I would have been rumbled in a few seconds…

Sounds like a track made strictly with parts from a sample pack. Maybe the problem is lazy producers…

I’m confused by this skippy hi hat talk as well and we need to get to the bottom of it  Initially I thought you were on about early 90s US house / garage. Strictly Rhythm kinda vibe. Morel, Todd Terry, Grant Nelson et al. But the example track is nothing like that. Its a fairly inoffensive, generic deep house track.

When Bicep started to get big they were all over that swingy US sound, one could argue they built a career off the back of it. I hated it at the time cos it was the sound I first got into as a club going youth. It just seemed so lazy and tired to trot out again. There are still big name culprits who strictly only play those records. Maybe its those you mean?

This is pretty much how my house music is sorted at home. ‘Good house’, ‘Detroit’, ‘everything else’. Bloody love my good house section.

It’s a bit of all of that and more. I just know it when I hear it ok?! haha

"inoffensive, generic " is a common denominator, which translates as boring.

is there any US house blowing people’s minds atm? been years since i was last immersed.

pretty much anything off Ibadan was godlike for a while, but way out of touch with it all now really.

I’ll probably always have a thing for the monotonous groove as that’s what I’ve always loved hearing, loud, on the dancefloor and still do. Mountain People, Zip, Perlon etc. Repetitive and hypnotic, I’m ok with it

I’ve been thinking this for a while. Am I looking in the wrong places for it? I want to get into some new Detroit / Chicago stuff too but have no idea where to start. The Theo’s and Moodymann’s have clearly made way, but for who?

Out of touch, Manchester.

Older guy was in the office today. Likes music, goes to ‘soul dos’ apparently. He said ‘really liking this one at the minute, it’s only available on Soundcloud’.
Turns on his laptop. Generic, dull house beats (as expected), which hopefully won’t last too long.
Then a couple of verses of vocal and I said ‘WTF, is that ADELE?!!’:joy:
‘No it’s a remix’

Oh dear!

I realised this week carl craig’s legendary angola remix came out exactly 20 years ago. (Red Rackem once tried to persuade me the pepe bradock was better but he was surely being contrary) I could not imagine him making anything like that now.

Absolute belter. He produced some fantastic remixes around that time.

Try Hard Wax. They seem to pretty upfront with House. Be prepared for lots of generic formulas that you’ve heard a million times before.
