My neighbour and his brother, both in their early 40’s, and bear in mind this is New England, wear Brady and Gronkowski jerseys. Their 6 boys under 10 have to play the line I.e. they just try to block their grown fathers who run plays, huddle, etc and the one in the Brady jersey always plays QB and the other always catches just like the men on their jerseys do in real life, the kids usually cry off after 10 minutes and the dads get super upset because they’re ruining their day. It’s pretty pathetic.

We are fair-weather sports fans. I can get into a game and despite not being a massive fan, I’ve never seen the point of anti-sports snobbery. A few years ago we enjoyed a Seahawks (Seattle pro football team) eke out an extraordinary victory against the Green Bay Packers in a crowded bar with great energy, etc. But we don’t own a single piece of Seahawks kit. As everyone flooded into the town center in the euphoria of the victory we were surrounded by drunk fans asking “where are your colours” and generally being menacing. Hate that shit.

I’m not anti-sports by any means, I have polos, scarves and sweatshirts of the team I support but a kit with a name on it is too far. The American Football example isn’t the best as I don’t think you can buy a jersey without a number on it, can you?

Yeah I think they all have a name/number. They do have one that recognises the fans as being the “12th Man” which rounds out the 11-person lineup in American football. We usually go to one game a year thanks to friends who have tickets and I keep telling myself to bite the bullet and just buy one to avoid confrontations lol

Great producer, doesn’t come across well in that at all.
Am admittedly turning into an old fucker but the more i see of clubland the less it has to do with acid house or the communal ideals it spawned. Yes, there were sometimes rough-er elements at parties but i guess that was usually offset by the good vibes elsewhere and now there isn’t even that? Shit govts, tough times, similar backdrops, so what changed?
