What are you watching?

Angelina Jolie’s Maria Callas biopic. I dunno. I really wanted to like it but it was also like a really long perfume ad.

Wednesday 24th of September :+1:

Yeah. If you have to wheel David Walliams out to tell people your work’s not cruel, then I’m not sure you’re winning the argument. Some people were really turning themselves into logical pretzels there. A lot of what comedians call ‘punching down’. Maybe he should just own it.

‘The Girlfriend’ on Prime. The mother Vs her son’s new girlfriend. Highly entertaining.

does it get better after the first episode? We turned it off half way through due to clunky writing.

If it didn’t gel with you from the beginning, you’re probably not going to like the rest of it. It’s OTT and a bit trashy but just seemed to work for me

We ended up bingeing all 6 episodes on Saturday. Still not sure if i thought it was good or rubbish, but as you say it was entertaining. I think we just continued watching it to see which one of the mum or girlfriend turned out to be the biggest crank, turned out they were both as mad as each other :joy:

Watched 28 years later recently. Was pretty disappointing. Am hoping the sequel will be better.

Thought Love Lies Bleeding was great although it didn’t do any favours for my anxiety meter.

Absolutely loved Dream Scenario. One of the best things I have seen in ages.

Ooh saw the first of these. Great fin, Bob odenkirk never disappoints

New series of Fisk on Netflix. Like an Australian Office meets Colin From Accounts

So pretty easy going fluff with laughs :+1:

Posting as a PSA - avoid this one. Could have been a tidy little thriller, it was rather awful. Script appeared to be AI. Matthew Macfadyen added a bit of creepiness to his Tom Wambsgans persona. Rachel Sennott was in it for exactly one minute. Nicole Kidman was at sea. How do these things get made?

Just watched Charlie Sheen documentary on netflix :flushed: just 2 episodes fckn crazy… I didn’t recognise his ex Denise Richards until way to long in the show… Drugs are bad M’kay

The Guest on BBC

Started quite well but deteriorated quickly. Only 4 episodes so stuck with it but in hindsight I wish I hadn’t.

4/10.

The Piper Alpha documentary on I and I player is well worth a watch. Fing grim. Those guys went through absolute hell because under Neoliberism, profit always comes before people.

I haven’t watched this, but one of my uncles was on Piper Alpha and was one of the first guys to be interviewed from hospital on the tv. I didn’t know it had happened and I was in the very north of Canada watching the news. And who should pop up but my Uncle. I nearly had a hairy canary. It dragged on for years as it went through the courts.

Awful. I used to work offshore on semi-submersible drilling rigs and latterly on survey and sub-sea vessels, until the downturn in 2016 and I was made redundant and thought fuck this, I’m out.

I never really got used to the choppers but sailing with the vessels (particularly the small survey vessels - the worse the weather, the better I slept) was brilliant, and watching the ROV pilots on the sub-sea vessels ‘fly’ them along pipelines and have to set them down and turn the lights off every ten minutes or so because there were too many fish in the way and they could no longer see anything was fascinating.

I’ve got enough stories - good and bad - to fill a novel

Highest To Lowest, the new Spike Jonze / Denzel thing on Apple. Not great. The first half has the most distracting, disjointed score I’ve ever heard. Like its from another movie entirely. Cant work out if its deliberate or not. Second half is better but still pretty preposterous. New York looks great though
