Yeah that John Lurie program looks good doesn’t it. Have an ace seven by him.
Just inhaled the latest season of Disenchantment, Matt Groening’s Netflix series.
Also, the Longmont Potion Castle documentary on Prime.
basketball pretty much every night
Wow it’s on Netflix now? One of my favorites, so many great reggae films
US Office
Better Call Saul
Guilt (iPlayer)
Too much sterile and sanitised football
Been wanting to see it for years.
Then thankfully popped up on Netflix during the usual can’t find anything to watch flick through.
at the risk of sounding like someone’s dad on Twitter, the TOTP repeats just now. We’re at the summer of 1990, love’s got the world in motion (even though I’m Scottish), and every second song is 100bpm ripping off “Back To Life.”
If you like music documentaries then I can recommend the Muscle Shoals one. Really interesting story about the studio band comings and goings as well as insight into the many, many classics recorded there. Too many greats to mention. It was on Netflix but is definitely available on YouTube and Prime.
Had the LP for years but only found out a few months ago there was a film of Aretha Franklin’s Amazing Grace. Still available on iplayer if you’re quick:
Took my wife and our 12 year old daughter to the cinema to see this. Absolutely blown away. So moving, particularly the bit where a gentleman mops her brow while she’s playing, then you realise it’s her father, the only person who could’ve done it. Beautiful.
For TV,
How To With John Wilson
Painting With John
Search Party
All hilarious in their own right.
Such an great watch. Took my Dad to see it at The Watershed in Bristol, we both loved it.
The Queens Gambit is one of the best things I’ve seen on Netflix in ages. If you liked Maniac or Russian Doll it will probably tick your box.
Also just smashed through How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast) this week. Very amusings
What Happened Miss Simone is also an enthralling and challenging watch
Ok bit of a random one: The Restaurant on Prime. Swedish thing about a (you guessed it) restaurant in Stockholm. Family saga from 1945-1970s. Stylish as fuck, like MadMen.
(Spoiler alert - they turn the jazz club under the restaurant into a club for a bit, late 1960s. Some quality DJ action, top booth, mirror ball).
Anyway. Characters and themes are solid throughout. Really enjoyed it.
How To with John Wilson is completely mind-blowing, what he is doing is kinda unlike anything else I’ve ever seen as far as comedy; I often find myself giddy with laughter when jokes are presented, unannounced, often as the juxtaposition between visual & voice-over, where they pop off the screen like an easter egg in a video game. It’s delightful and side-splittingly hilarious. I can only watch one at a time but looking fwd to more!!
100% agree. It’s on another level of genius, comedy, performance art, film…
Truly next level. The season finale ties the whole season together so well.
…and he’s signed on for Season 2.
Just finished Sopranos, yes I know, 2021… BRILLIANT
Succession - Just finished a binge. Absolutely amazing characters and dialogue.
Godless - Netflix hidden surprise, one off Western series of the highest quality.
Mandalorian - Just because its ace
Operation Odessa - Documentary on Netflix. Has to be seen to be believed
…and in the backgorund I’m on Season 5 Ep10 of a Sopranos re-watch
dog training videos.
