What are you watching?

Survivor Australia. Haven’t watched the show for at least 12 years or more but decided to jump back in. It’s an easy watch and a fun guilty pleasure.

I loved all the intense sequences of the producer putting his tie on etc. And the silent interview in the back of the limo! So strange.

Just watched it… :+1:

I know someone on here just recently binged Yellowstone. A mate also did the same last week.
I tried it a couple of years ago on a recommendation and didn’t finish the first episode.
Anyway, I reckon i’ve watched about 6 hours a night this last week and I still don’t like it! :joy:
Anybody else weirdly hooked by watching a bunch of really, really terrible people shout at, ruin, maim and kill lots of other really terrible people all while wearing Carharrt and Pendleton?

Some of the clunky ‘ranch explainer’ dialogue sounds like they’ve drafted in the agricultural adviser from the Archers.
Some of the scenes are just so badly done it’s kind of comedy.
Even when the stakes are as high as they can be there is a distinct lack of tension, and every denouement seems like an anti climax. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t found a character in 4 seasons who I care about enough.

Anyway, I can’t wait to get home and watch season 5 this evening.

ps Kelly Reilly is totally amazing in her role as Beth Dutton, surely one of the most heinous characters ever created. She deserves awards for her work.
Like Sue Ellen Ewing on steroids (and Bullitt bourbon)

I was considering it, I’ve gone right off the idea

I haven’t seen Yellowstone, but most Taylor Sheridan shows seem to be a confused mixture of extreme stoic masculinity, revenge fantasy, repetitive imminent rape danger, big trucks and the cleansing power of guns - all penned by the mind of what seems to be a 15 year old boy’s image of goodies and baddies when it comes to plot and character development.

Seems to me like you’ve absolutely nailed it there. :ok_hand:

Just watched a lovely documentary on the iPlayer about pop artist Pauline Boty called ‘Pauline Boty - I Am The Sixties’. Very good. Quite the life and amazing work.

We gave up on it midway through s.2. Loved Kelly Reilly, but everything else was a bit, meh.

A mate recommended ‘Paradise’ so tried a couple of episodes last night. Am intrigued but it looks very American with an unnecessary and cheesy use of west wing style music in key scenes.

Heh, I kind of know what you mean. I watched it all and enjoyed it while also being acutely aware of its many faults which you’ve listed here. Quentin Tarantino did an interview recently where he said something like its strangely compelling while youre watching it but goes nowhere and is ultimately forgettable and hollow which is bang on

She featured in Simon Schama’s recent History of Now series. Fab isnt she!

Yes. True one off. I’m glad she’s getting her dues.

What’s the consensus on the new While Lotus? Loved the first two but critics seem a bit lukewarm about this one.

Loving it. No-one will ever beat Armand, but still.

Its pretty glacial so far. Lot of intrigue and set up. Not fair to judge it on just 3 episodes really.

I’m enjoying it. Each episode seems to be 2 hours long (in a good way). As good as the 1st or 2nd seasons? Time will tell, they were both pretty brilliant and the lack of Jennifer Coolidge is a huge gap to fill.

I’m personally pretty lukewarm on the current season of Severance. It’s coming across as quirky for the sake of quirky with plotless intrigue. I’d be happy to be proven wrong as the season progresses though.

Yup the Armond character was genius. Murray Bartlett is excellent in everything he is in.
