Im watching a lot of National Theatre Live recordings that they started doing during lockdown. Not all of them to my taste, but all with a unique look and vision and expression. Compared to the weird, smooth unengaging stuff that im scrolling across on my Netflix and Amazon. I know that these are supposed to not to have any impact on you, so you just keep watching but man it feels like watching, and being in, The Stepford Wives, at the same time.
Just started a subscription so we could watch Prima Facie again. Looking forward to delving in to the rest. Always top quality and I recon 2-3 months should be enough, then unsubscribe for a bit and do it again in about a years time
If not seen already, watch Yerma on National Theatre Live - Billie Piper was astonishingly good.
If you can catch it somewhere, I recommend The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing. It’s a short film that was nominated (but didn’t win) at the BAFTAS).
It was showing on the Sundance website, but seems to have taken down now.
Funboys on iPlayer. Fucking brilliant!
New season of white lotus as of today
Finished the last series of Slow Horses on Friday. Roll on the next one.
The people are not happy!
I personally didnt mind the new theme but my wife was outraged
Interesting! My partner hated it, but I quite liked it. I had no idea it was a thing though.
The new theme is more akin to a theme song made by Sunju Hargun or Komodo Kolektif, definitely in keeping with the new setting.
finally watched the venture brothers movie. it’s delightful. the rob base “it takes two” scene had me dying.
for my money, the venture brothers is the best animated series of all time. the characters, the world building, the voices, the art - shit, the theme song (jim thirlwell!). it’s well worth investing some time with.
Vietnam. The War That Changed America on Apple TV
Really good 6 part documentary with a lot of amazing footage. Good interviews with survivors, soliders and civilians and looks at how it changed the psyche of the American people
New season of Will Trent is going strong for those that like inoffensive, slightly quirky serials.
We started watching Severance last night. My wife who swears extremely rarely said it was a ‘head fuck’
The best kind of head fuck though!
Started this, its incredible.
Thanks, will give this a whirl. The Ken Burns documentary was incredible telly
Where is that one available? Is it a new Ken Burns?
On Prime and Sky/Now
Ken Burns stuff is great. This was very powerful.
The Mrs has sprung for Now so we are devouring Jackal, Penguin (both excellent) and new White Lotus (too soon to say).
Particularly enjoying the bond-style credits on Jackal. Can any type nerds identify the nice 70s-style typeface they use for the titles?
