What are you watching?

Its black comedy tho, not serious drama

Just started Succession again as the missus hadnt seen it. For me the dialogue is one of the best things about it. Of course people dont talk like that, let alone corporate rich boys but its done in such a sharp, witty way they get away with it.

Couldn’t agree more, Joe.

There are certain threads they’re pulling at; Mando’s redemption, Bo Kotan’s incidental redemption and crisis of faith upon getting involved with Djarin (her even entertaining the ideals of a cult is evidence enough of that), and simultaneously Grogu’s own little journey. Thematically, everything so far works and makes sense to me, I’m just not sure if they have an end goal in mind. I think that’s where the sort of aimlessness comes from.

They do seem to be suggesting larger threats at play, possibly even Moff Gideon returning, as well as the introduction of pirate moss man (actual name Gorian Shard). Quite like him. As of now, those pieces are just kind of hanging out without any spot on the board.

I’ll be interested to see how it all wraps up this season.

My main issue with this season is that its been too episodic. Just watched the latest EP, and it finally seems like there might be an overarching plot coming into play, although this season feels like the Bo Katan show with Mando as a supporting character. Its pretty unrecognisable from the show it started as imo. Great Rebels cameo this week though.

The Night Agent. Every single political spy thriller trope in the book, but it’s fast paced, twisty turny, and brilliant fun. Gabriel Basso is easy on the eye too.

I get that but I don’t think it deserves the praise it gets. It’s a good show but not the work of genius it is lauded as.

I wasn’t gonna bother with season 4 but then the Mrs put it on last night and POW hooked again. So good, so pacy, so sparky, so dark.

The 5th episode was the beginning of bring it all together. It was much better than the last few…

Agree. Winding it up is the right move though as it is just a loop of the same story line it’s had since season 1. Great fun though.

Just started Yellowjackets. Really really slow so far but intriguing nonetheless

Daisy Jones & The Six on Amazon Prime. I randomly read this book years ago; it’s basically the Fleetwood Mac story about a fictional 70s band. The love affairs, the drugs, the fame. It also has a side story about the birth of disco. The TV version plays like a typical band doc with the band being interviewed “now” and then the story being played in flashback. I mean it’s the most cliche-ridden thing you’ll ever see but, somehow, it works. The songs were written for the show and actually stand up as being believable, especially in the concert scenes.

I watched it on a long flight and immediately watched it again to see what I missed. Second viewing made more sense but there is so much to take in. Great film, but I think if we talked about it we’d have a different view/take on it.
