What are you watching?

Never bothered with The Last Of Us games, they kind of fell into the same trap as Uncharted for me, they seem to look nice but game-wise — there’s just nothing of interest there for me.

Then, before I knew it, a billion years went by and I still never bothered. Same thing happened with Avatar. We have the sequel now and I was never keen to see the first.

That said, as far as Last Of Us goes, the show looks about as 1:1 as you can get, aside from the actors (only so much you can do there). I’ll probably give it a look, it may function better as television for me than it would a game, since that’s really my issue. Then again, I’ve never really liked the outbreak/parasite/infection/zombie apocalypse thing either, that all sort of peaked with the Resident Evil games as far as I’m concerned.

I recently wrapped up Welcome To Chippendales, a great case of stretching the truth for the sake of entertainment, the show definitely illustrates a story and some of it is true. But that’s never really the goal of the program, if anything, it functions better as a fictional period piece. Kumail Nanjiani and Murray Bartlett are top notch, the music is terrific, and the opening credits sequence alone is glorious. If the team behind this show went on to do another period piece, fictional? I would be all over it.

Chernobyl was amazing.

The outbreak / infected stuff is really secondary to the main plot which is all about Joel and Ellie’s relationship. Kind of like the early seasons of the Walking Dead, but way, way better. People should not be put off watching The Last Of Us thinking its average zombie slasher fare. Its very much a human story.

Makes sense. Sounds like it’ll definitely fare better as viewing then for me if that’s the case. Will check out. HBO has a good track record (for now, bit of nonsense as of late at the top, unfortunately).

Saw Aftersun last night. Wow, what a film. Love the way its shot and its dreamy, ethereal quality. One of those films that leaves a mark on you after. Had to read a few reviews to check if I’d picked up all the subtleties. Lot going on under the surface, deserves a repeat viewing for sure.

I’m still thinking about it days after.

The two leads are superb. Paul Mescal is one of the best young actors I’ve seen in a long long time. He was excellent in Normal People too.

Dreamy and ethereal is the perfect way to describe Aftersun.

yep, just watched Aftersun as well. it felt very nostalgic, a lot of the soundstrack was music in my teens. also needed to read a few explainers after. great film.

also watched the whale, thought brendan fraser was amazing in it but the film okay. at times it felt like a horror.

pleasantly surprised by ‘emily the criminal’. aubrey plaza just being herself :). decent film which was a bit tense at time. nice to watch a film that isn’t usual 2 hours.

‘Herb and Dorothy’
Documentary on a sweet, working class couple who amassed one of the best and largest American modern art collections with very little income and without selling one piece (ever). About love and passion as much as it is about art. Very inspiring stuff. Full documentary is free to watch on Youtube.

Not sure I can bring myself to watch this.

Dogs are beautiful creatures. How anyone can do this to them is beyond me.

It’s really about the saving the dogs and the work people put into it… Some amazing stories. Vick was multi million a year footballer at the top of his game, he was able to buy the top dogs from all around the world. Some had no human contact at all. Its a very heart warming story as bad as sounds

Just watched the trailer. So glad these dogs get to live the rest of their lives loved and wanted.

This is a great follow up piece in the Washington Post from a few years when the last of the dogs rescued passed away of old age

Finally getting to watch it tonight…

Bad Batch season 2 with my boy.

So far it’s quite predictable.

Watched the first episode of Treason ont ‘flix. Fairly average thriller but a sizeable cameo for Sounds of the Universe :clap:t2: location for a dead drop involving some Azerbaijani folk album.

Really enjoyed the first series, so was hoping for a strong season 2. Most of the animated SW series have been much, much better than a lof of the live action stuff imo

They really have which is why this seems like a damp squib. Characters haven’t developed which is the issue.

I’ve read about a lot of the events and writing explored in the animated stuff, as I’m a nerd for SW. I’ve only read though because I find the 3D, cgi style absolutely abysmal. Hard to look at, so I don’t, but writing-wise — rock solid.

People tell me I’ll get used to it but animation has always been a big barrier of entry for me, if it’s not 2D, traditional/done with cels? It’s not for me. Enjoyed the 2003 Clone Wars by Genndy Tartakovsky, stylized as it may have been. Shame none of that’s “canon” of course, but what can you do.

I was the same but since having a kid its 90% animated content on the TV so perhaps I’ve been dulled to it

Tbf the early seasons of Clone Wars are a bit ropey but the finale is a banger. Same with Rebels, there’s some pretty dark stuff there at times
