feel like i already mentioned this but the mysterious benedict society on disney is great kid stuff and interesting enough to keep adults’ attention. smart and full of really great characters. tony hale does great tony hale things. shot beautifully, it’s like wes anderson for the kiddos.
my daughter is 8 and i’m pretty sure she wants to be half of the people on this show.
Currently watching the second series of Love Life on Netflix, watched the first when it came out in 2020 but somehow missed the release of the second.
Would recommend if you’re struggling to find something worth watching. Nicely done, subtly funny series that follows a central character unsurprisingly navigating their love life. Somewhat similar to Girls and the other Judd Apatow comedy drama Love. Easy and enjoyable watch, nothing groundbreaking and you’ll almost certainly forget everything about it in a few weeks.
Yes, enjoyed that. The books are really great, too. Lamb was described as looking like Timothy Spall gone to seed (or something like that) in the books, but once you’ve seen Gary Oldman, it really couldn’t have been anyone else.
A strange, odd film. Great cast, some laugh out loud moments and stunning cinematography. Not seen anything quite like it. Need to process what its about.
My film of 2022 by some distance. I use to have a major dislike of Colin Farrell. Then I saw In Bruges and I have been eternally sorry for doubting him.
Martin McDonagh’s first film is on YouTube too. A short starring Brandan Gleeson (not with Colin Farrell, but I suppose it does have a cheeky young fella, similar dynamic).
Our local art house did Morvern Callar as part of a series themed “mediocre women”. Love the novel, had never seen the film. Visual poetry. And Oban didn’t seem half as bleak as in the novel. Great music obviously.
