Not a track ID as such, but wondered if anyone here know who was behind these when they came out 10+ years ago?

Vaguely remember it being someone from Sweden though maybe mixing up with another Balearic bootleg set of LPs

Thanks!
I remember a slew came out at the same time.
Recently heard a Jose Padilla tape from the 90s and one of the tracks was “Dancing Fantasy - Beyond the Horizon”.
Never heard of the band or song and went off down a rabbit hole searching for the album.
Resigned myself to never getting a copy as I don’t want the CD…then finding it on that album.

Loads of tracks on those albums are pretty obscure, so I wondered if it was someone close to the real scene from the 90s.

Coincidentally most of the tracks appear on a Spotify playlist I did with Moonboots in 2008 …

@Hierbas asked about the guys that ran the label a while back, if that helps at all?:

It was a great series, whoever put it together.

I always wonder what the source-material for these unofficial compilations is.

Me too. Remember the Supersound and associated labels? The pressing on those was excellent. Didn’t feel like some dodgy bootleg, Felt like someone had the masters to go from. Rogue employees at record labels?

Supersound was a London DJ, WU-ndt like to guess who… Apparently. Telex Joseph Watt remix was from off CD I heard, so based on that I always guessed the better bootlegs could always be done from CD versions not necessarily masters. I’m sure there’s more than a few people on this site knocking out bootlegs / edits :grinning:

I remember stories back when I was at Music & Video Exchange that some of the 80s/90s soul-jazz-funk type bootlegs were disaffected record label employees.
I guess if you had access you could dub yourself a master copy as everything was tape and the machines are all right there!
Then there were enough smaller pressing plants you could knock out a few thousand compilations and make some cash in hand.

I liked his later work too…

Edit: I just saw that you posted it in the Bandcamp thread, whoops!

24 bit files best but a decent mastering engineer should be able to get a decent cut from 16 bit CD source, sure

Does anyone know the origin of the “Don’t hold back” sample?

Vocals by Bernard Fowler, a much sampled voice.

I heard the samples before I heard the original vocal in ‘I Need You Now’. Seemed strange to hear the original after all the other tunes it appeared in. Great track though. BFs voice is very distinctive.
