love both, but think some of theo’s tracks just take you somewhere else.
also, while were on the subject, i always thought maybe theo or moodymann could have had a hand in this track (B1) came out as untitled by untitled on an early perscription record.
comes in @ 16mins
what do you think? or who else might have made it?
Kenny Producer
Theo DJ
Exactly this
I got this off zaf i had to buy it back i had it from the shop winter breeze is so good. all four tracks on that soul city 12 are great.
Not seen either DJ live, so I’m making my choice based only on the amount of records I own of each of them.
What I’ve been able to dig out in 10 min, theres the lp’s somewhere. Forgot how good that 3 chairs double pack is in the middle.
Could be Theo, although Baby Steps didn’t come until 1996, and his sound was (imo) quite stripped back even then. I could see Kenny making something more like this, or another Chicago producer?
Being reissued this year. Cracking album.
Exactly the 2 I was going to post
I’ve never seen either DJ sadly but its KDJ for me easily, based on his records alone and dude just seems like just a fly MF
There was a time when Basics was at Mint Club late 90’s/early 00’s and around 11pm every Saturday when the club was warming up, Ralph Lawson would always drop ‘Tribute’ and crank the volume way up to signal the night was propely started
And I’ve lost count of the crazy moments I’ve had to ‘Shades Of Jae’ Always reminds me of the camo netting being pulled down at Electric Chair
Shades of Jae reminds me of the chair so much too. It literally went off.
KDJ edges it on the production side for me but I think I’d rather have a pint with Theo, who’s also produced some belters. I’ve not heard either DJ in the flesh but would lean towards Theo on that front. Two absolute dons for sure.
Absolutely.
