Always loved this beauty.
Don’t know why i never got round to listening to Bo’vel’s other tunes before, but this is great:
Bo’vel - Coming Back
Massively underrated record. Killer record. Brought from Dave at City Sounds, Holborn at time of release. Not the sort of thing I was buying in 1992 but I was an old soul boy so it probably pricked my ear, plus Dave was good salesman. I’m glad I picked this up though. Grab it on Cogs, peanuts probably.

we’ve got some stories about this one too. B is a character!
oooh - i’m all ears!
So…where does everyone think The Sindecut stand in all of this?..in my humble opinion a hugely underrated collective…Changing The Scenery is proper from start to finish…thoughts?
Brian Dougans and Garry Cobain made so much great music !
It’s a blurry genre I suppose. You might hear one of their tunes in a street soul mix. Something like ‘Tell Me Why’ may have worked, but I’d say Sindecut sit more in the UK hip hop scene of that era really. Generally, they don’t seem to have that sweet sentimentality or reggae bottom end.
I’ve had this on repeat today… May be an obvious one, but a proper bargain:
This is cool. Street soul version of MPB. Not heard this before
Always loved this:
Originally on a Japanese cd and then bootlegged with a load of other remixes
More hip hop but nice:
There’s a real crossover with 2 step generally -Lowrell - Mellow Mellow, Patrice Rushen - wishful Thinking and lovers rock and boogie.
A bit later but https://youtu.be/dHNW0CzL0nw Manchester was strong - I love this, Veba is such a cool singer
Another great street soul-ish one from Sade
Loving this thread. I’ve had kind of a vague appreciation for street soul for the last 10-15 years but learning more particulars about the underground history of it in the UK is enriching my appreciation even more.
Something I just picked up that I love is Opaz “I Don’t Want It.” I guess maybe this was outside the whole scene of street soul at the time though? Ultimately it doesn’t matter I suppose but always interesting to flesh out the parameters of a genre.
I was born in 1988 so I don’t really know this music as lived real experience of club culture. But my impression is that it encompassed a broad range of stuff - you were just as likely to hear “Crazy” or “Justify My Love” as much as some Bristol sounds or US r&b?
Nice. I like the SHE Project stuff. Technofusion 2 is worth copping too. Also, Jenni Evans was the vocalist on this classic: Sahara - Love So Fine (12" Electro Disco-Funk 1985) - YouTube
