When I deleted FB, by day 2 i already didn’t miss it!
Mad innit - haven’t missed it at all. Just shows how easy it is to break the habit.
I saw the most average mind of my generation destroyed by LinkedIn - Howl by Allen Ginsberg, 2025 edition.
Imagine what the orange baby could do with this. Scary…
Read an article at the weekend about how Meta had used pics of schoolgirls in ads targeted at men to get them to use Threads.
What do you think it would take for the majority to bin off social media completely?
I binned Insta a month ago. No regrets really. The cool music bits were far out weighed by time spent on vacuous nonsense
That was so fucked up
Either someone at Meta knew, in which case WTF?
Or they had no idea and the algorithm did it automatically, in which case… WTF?!
I can kind of understand what they’re saying from a pure algorithmic point, but surely at some stage a Human has to step in and say actually, fuck this shit?!
Meta are anti-Human
Facebook — now Meta — identified teenage girls who had deleted selfies on its platforms, and then supplied the data to companies to target them with ads for putatively tummy-flattening teas or beauty products.
Never put photos/videos of your kids on social media
a study that found that 60% of content discovered on the computers of people sexually interested in children came from social media sites, and that about 92% of an audience for teen girl influencers is likely to be adult men.
It’s an obvious thing to say but the ratio of crap I didn’t ask for as opposed to posts by people I know has changed so much. I kind of get 9 shit posts to 1 friend post. It really is time for an alternative.
I think this is a good example of “Enshitification”.
Here in Australia, from 10 December 2025, age-restricted social media platforms (TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube) must take reasonable steps to prevent under 16s from having accounts.
According to a google search i just did asking if those over 16 will require ID to continue using the paltforms
" you will not be required to provide age proof to keep using social media platforms after December 10, as the legislation prohibits platforms from compelling users to use government ID for age verification. However, platforms must offer reasonable alternatives for users to verify they are 16 or older, but they are not required to verify every user’s age. Acceptable alternatives could include photo ID, facial age estimation, or credit card checks, with the chosen method depending on the platform"
People aren’t thrilled about the thought of handing over photo Id or face recognition to these companies and I expect it might be the push many were waiting for to rid themselves of the social media addiction. Personally, it’s a big part of my job as a graphic designer and marketing person ie, how I make a living, so I don’t have the luxury of just leaving it for good.
The Government seriously think that ID cards are the answer? Fucking desperate. We should be finding immigrants jobs and homes FFS.
I don’t follow, how are ID cards for over 16s to use social media, and finding homes and jobs for immigrants related?
Surely they would be different departments?
I started an Instagram account just putting up records and clips as an experiment. In the beginning the amount of accounts it reached was split evenly between followers and non-followers. Generally 500+ views per post. I’ve tripled followers since then and it’s now 99% followers and 1% non-followers. I haven’t broken 100 views in a month. I don’t do reels or anything as it’s purely an experiment and I don’t really know where I’m going with this but I found that fascinating. Going to sack it off soon but was quite interesting how they make you visible then bury you. I follow my account from my other account and I never see the posts even though I like all of them. As a whole though Instagram shows me very little of people I actually follow so it’s definitely time to move on.
Well they’re hoping to use the ID card to deter immigration.
There was talk about ID cards about 15-20 years ago i think? Didnt happen in the end of course. There would be too much push back on it now for it to be effective.
Obviously just the best thing Labour could come up with to make it look attractive to the Reform lot but they wont be into it either i dont think!
I think this will be the nail in Starmer’s leadership.
tbf ID cards work pretty well in Spain. They often save a whole load of admin grief when applying for residency, permits, health, local services, city cycle schemes, travel etc but it is a country that is used historically to complying with the state whereas feels like the UK has always a bit more resistant
Tony Blair tried to get it through parliament last time, and surprise surprise his think tank is championing it this time around, he really is an odious prick craving attention and relevance again.
