I was embarrassed to realise I’d never heard of this until Oscar time. Looks brilliant, clips reminded me of City of God.
On a cinema related note, a pal of mine has won a BAFTA and an Oscar this awards season. Amazing. Lots of great pics of him holding his golden statue. It’s for Sound on Dune 2.
Films on TV post
I enjoyed Blue Movie on iPlayer ( it got pulled from cinema when out)
A but sub Top Boy but enjoyable
Really beautiful and very sad film. Definitely one to watch
If you liked Aquarius you may like “Que Horas Ela Volta?” from 2015. I haven’t watched it but Karim Ainouz’s “A Vida Invisível” was well talked about.
Anything by Kleber Mendonça Filho is worth watching. “O Som Ao Redor” (I think “Neighboring Sounds” in English) is fantastic, as is “Retratos Fantasmas” which people really thought would have made the Oscars selection when it was released.
Not to mention “City of God”, “Elite Squad” 1 and 2 and “Central Station” which are also all famous for very good reasons.
Ta We loved “Que Horas Ela Volta?”, “Central Station” and both “Tropa de Elite”. Will seek out the others you mentioned!
Just Watched Anora not knowing anything about the movie, Wow what a part Mikey Madison played…
Brill wasn’t it?
Just watched Conclave and A Real Pain on a plane. Both great. Conclave was superb.
I almost left Anora midway through, and then after the baptism scene and all that follows actually had a fun time. In my opinion it was nowhere near deserving of winning best picture or best actress.
Mickey 17. Don’t go expecting anything like Parasite. Essentially quite a knockabout sci-fi comedy. Has its moments, enjoyable enough and Pattinson is excellent (as ever) but pretty lightweight.

Cinema night last night. One week I choose, the next week my mate chooses. Every now and then we’ll go and see a film that neither of us feels like seeing, to surprise ourselves.
Last night we saw Marching Powder.
Lowest common denominator laughs. C-bombs aplenty. Standard Danny Dyer shenans.
Fucking awful.
Question: I don’t frequent pubs and clubs that often these days, but are people getting that blatant hoovering up the chang in full view of other punters?
I’ve seen it happen in plain and blatant sight yeah. I’ve seen what looked like 15 year old girls taking bumps off a phone screen in the middle of Glasgow at 7pm at night
I’m no cineaste, just a casual cinema goer ,but i’ve never understood why the British film industry is so awful, we make great art in other forms, we’ve produced great actors and directors and there are some very good British films, few and far between, but by and large it’s poor.
It’s odd.
Fair to say Nick Love has a great record of making absolutely terrible films.
I think it’s a tax write-off thing
Yeah i’ve heard that before, a shame if true it could be so much more.
Hardly a surprise, have you seen the lyrics to Charl xcx’s 365?
Those 15yr olds will know every word.
Ha, I did exactly the same a couple of weeks back, first two choices
