I feel your pain.
Just got back from a family trip to see Andrew Scott’s one man performance of Vanya. It was a live broadcast of the stage show at the NT. Absolutely, staggeringly brilliant is the conclusion we all came to.
Even the entitled women who arrived 10 minutes late only to get the wrong seats and then make fuss about it and the woman two along who’s phone went off for two minutes until she gave up looking in her bag and went out couldn’t ruin the show for me
Saw American Fiction this evening, really enjoyed it
Couldn’t stop humming this on the bus home (used in the party scene after the wedding).
Anatomy of a Fall - incroyable!
I was thinking Snoop deserved an award and it turned out he got one
Booked for Dune Part 2 on Friday, very much looking forward to it!
Going on Saturday. Giddy with excitement.
Slightly concerned about this chat around him taking on Dune Messiah next though. Whilst I adored the first novel, I seem to remember it taking a rapid nosedive thereafter…
Finally saw All of Us Strangers last night, wish I hadn’t been on a solo mission as would have been good to go through thoughts on the ending.
Definitely glad I saw at the cinema as this deserves full attention and keen to rewatch to see what I missed
Reminded me of the first time I saw Donnie Darko (just realised this was now 20 years ago) for a similar “wow that was brilliant, WTF just happened “ feeling at the end
Soundtrack also ace
Saw Wicked Little Letters last night. It’s catching some hate, but I laughed like a drain.
Puerile and all the better for it.
Off to see Perfect Days this evening. A little zen moment of calm before the eye and ear drum-buggering spectacle of Dune 2 at the weekend.
I can’t recommend Perfect Days highly enough. Really beautiful film that made my life feel horrendously cumbersome.
Saw Zone Of Interest last night. Utterly chilling.
If you were totally ignorant of the Holocaust you could almost take it at face value as the Commandant and his family having a nice jolly old time out East in their new home. But the subtleties in use of sound and film as to what was really going on are incredible.
What a run of films we’ve had the last couple of month’s, shame the Oscars boreathon is upon us and is likely give everything to Oppenheimer as they all deserve something
Yep, TZOI (very intense on decent headphones) and AOUS blew me away last weekend. I also found a Brandon Chronenberg flick I hadn’t heard of, Antiviral, really enjoyed that, and had a rewatch of No Country For Old Men. It was quite the Saturday night!
Got Poor things for this weekend, really can’t wait.
There were a cpl different theories between me and my wife. Won’t spoil for anyone, but would be interested to hear others take on it too.
I loved it.
Dune Pt 2 WOW!
Not much more I can say until others see it. Sooo good!
Off to see it in a few hours!
Loved the sound design and soundtrack of the first part. Came out and googled when the second one was coming and read that they had even started!
Waited a long time for this!
The sound is immense in this. We saw it on a Dolby system on the iSense screen at our local Odeon. Blew us away
Caught Dune 2 yesterday. Pretty amazing. It felt like the script was doing quite a lot of heavy lifting at the start and was a little clunky but it soon got into its groove. Visually incredible . Really nailed the strangeness of book.
Watched Perfect Days this evening. It’s a great movie and leaves the curious viewer with plenty to contemplate. As an ode to simplicity and finding joy in the seemingly mundane, it feels like a direct challenge to the digital/social media/selfish whirl we live in. Makes me want to throw a lot of stuff away and think harder about what actually matters.
Looks like it would be good double bill with Past Lives, wonder why Cinemas don’t do them anymore.
