I just couldn’t do it,
Update off some Ibiza forum I have been checking the last couple of weeks for covid news
…the situation has improved massively in the last few weeks. the last restrictions on reunions/meetings are being lifted this week. Also this week the government and the nightlife association is meeting again. so hopefully in a week or so we’ll know whether we’ll have that end of the season dance or whether we’ll have to wait until next year
Great to hear mate, sounds like an ace time was had by you and yours.
Appreciated and I’ll let you know how we go!
great music assured, albeit at…
A wee review of sorts…
First off, the whole testing and form filling procedure wasn’t nearly as much of a hassle as it may seem at first glance and entry and departure from Spain was flawless.
Weather was nice apart from 2 days of biblical rainfall, we’re not massive sunbathers (for long periods anyway) but rain is always a bit rubbish but we used those days to go exploring in the car. The east coast and Ibiza town seemed not so much quieter but less hectic if that makes sense, lots more Spanish and Europeans than British and just more tranquil. The restaurants were still busy and booking for certain ones still needed.
Food; Really good dinners at Ebesus (on Vara de Rey in town) La Oliva - we go every time we’re there, love it! Spent the night chatting to a couple next to us, he was dutch, brought up in Italy and lives in Switzerland, she was English, the waiter was French…don’t you just love Ibiza/Europe? Casa Maca was absolutely brilliant, up on a hill over looking the Dalt Villa and a fantastic dinner start to finish. La Paloma, again a favourite and didn’t disappoint. Dinner at Nobu - unbelievable food and really lovely service, I mean it ain’t cheap but it was a treat…Daytime on our joint birthday we spent the day at Jondal and we’ll definitely go back. Just along the same beach as Blue Marlin (avoid) Super friendly and nice food brought straight to the lounger. The restaurant was full all day, mostly Spanish. Highlight of the day was the 2 guys that run the loungers bringing over a little chocolate ganache with a candle in and singing happy birthday to me (my wife had tipped them off but unselfishly didn’t say it was her’s as well). Lunch at Cala Gracioneta was nice, if a little pricey but a great spot. Cala Gracio just round the corner is a bit roomier and the little beach restaurant is as good and much better value. Have to say eveywhere we ate was super friendly.
Other than that it was massive gin tonicas in the bars round the Dalt Villa and long lies and reading books. Hire car from MyIbiza Scooter was a Nissan Juke with satnav for €216 for 4 days with 2 drivers and all excesses etc and delivered to our hotel. A family run firm and I’d use again for sure.
Music: Next to none really. We popped into the W in Sta. Eularia on the way home from La Paloma to catch Alfredo and friends up on the roof. Alfredo had finished so we caught Russ aka DJ Dribbler (a fellow scot, wrote Harry’s Kebabs and all round decent guy) so was good to get a catch up with him.
We’ve made some enquiries about returning in winter. Just a week away for a totally different experience, mildish weather and to get away from Scotland. If anyone has any tips or advice as to whether this is even a good idea based on their experience I’m all ears.
Perfect Chris, sounds idyllic, turned to Autumn here overnight with some biblical rain so sounds very alluring right about now.
I think the next few weeks will be great there. It was 30c when we left and looked good for the foreseeable. Still busy right into October…
great review Chris. We met Mr DJ Dribbler too at Pikes!
You think? With these ridiculous new rules for clubs to open there now at this time of year its a complete joke…
Yeah I do, I wasn’t meaning to go clubbing though. If anyone is clinging onto the idea of going there for that still then it’s not for them.
Holiday is no problem but for people who want to dance the night away I would rather be in my kitchen to be honest,.
Top man is Russ (Dribbler).
Just got back from El Silencio. It is in the perfect setting, a really nice atmosphere and the seabass is the best I have ever had. Pricey but nicey.
We are contemplating returning in a month’s time as my eldest had to be left at home for school so feel bad. It will be half term so will keep an eye on prices. Might even get to go on a dancefloor with a mask on and 1 metre away from everyone, or not. If we don’t come back in 4 weeks like you Chris we may return in the winter to see what it will be like if our permanent move comes to fruition. Everyone we have spoken to who has moved here absolutely love the winter.
That’s good to know mate. We tried to speak to as many people as possible about winter and it was all positive
Winter is good, been Dec, Jan and Feb and has always been better than summer visits. All pre covid of course
One of my wife’s friends who lives here told her that they have been to the beach every Christmas day as the weather has been that mild. A nanny we have used also said the temps always seem to be spring like and that also a lot of the restaurants stay open. Only the tourist ones close down, the ones with the tempting pictures of the donner kebabs.
What has the weather been like?
We went via Barcelona as no direct flight from Dublin, booked one night in Barcelona Thursday and early flight Friday morning to Ibiza and same on return after the weekend. it was pissing rain and miserable one time leaving Barcelona and less than a hour later it was clear sky and 18°. I wouldn’t worry about the weather and you will get a few hours beach time most months
We spent NY in Barcelona 2 years ago just before covid kicked in proper and it was 16/17° Really pleasant, that’s what’s got us thinking
