The Health Kick (Inside)

That Huel stuff he constantly bangs on about is absolutely revolting.

I’ve had it on and off since it came out, totally immune to it now. Have the Black version most lunches, it does help to keep the weight off. But yeah I get why people don’t like it totally.

My Garmin consistently rates some of the worst sleeps of my life as a solid nine hours so I think I’m OK

Just rattled through this - what a lovely read. Thanks for the tip, mate!

Same! Felt very mundane & simple and yet every page contained a little philosophical jewel.

This thread never fails. (edit: I meant the book thread obvs)

Does it work for people who don’t run, perhaps favouring walking or sitting down?:squinting_face_with_tongue:

I was about to ask the same question!

I can promise you nothing about it is likely to make you want to take up running in case you were worried about that.

PS I read an astonishing book about surfing last summer called Barbarian Days, it was incredibly well written and detailed to the point of being obsessive, I loved it but remain completely uninterested in trying surfing in any way. (edit: less interested if anything)

One of my favorite books and can absolutely relate to the experience. I even tried to watch an old surfing movie to keep the nostalgia going and couldn’t get into it. Loved his obsession.

Amazing book. I actually believed I could surf after reading it despite having tried and failed

Weirdly I’m a surf obsessive but can’t get into the book, tried three times so far.

Wondered whether to post what’s going on with me here but, anyway, here we go…

About 3/4 months back i noticed it was getting harder to walk uphill/climb stairs. gp said i was getting older - cheek, i’m 54. Asked for a 2nd opinion and resistance testing showed something wrong with my legs.. blood test on the friday, call for emergency rheumatology appt on the Monday - CK enzyme levels should between 40-300, mine 3900 (5000 would be hospitalisation) This is muscles breaking down - I have Statin Induced Autoimmune Myositis - incurable but manageable muscle-wasting illness, caused by a very rare auto-immune response to statins - as the name suggests.

On lots of steroids and anti-inflammatory and physio. Had to quit the booze 6 weeks ago.

Quitting the booze has been fine - even doing Margate Soul Weekend but, had to move the We Out Here tickets on - unable to walk across fields that much.

You just never know what’s around the corner - 50s is, as they say, snipers’ alley!

Feel pretty positive most of the time though - just frustration really - especially when i can’t pick the grandkids up.

Good for you for pursuing it and not letting them fob you off. Hope you find a treatment / management that helps.

I would direct you more in the direction of Robert M Pirsig’s musings on the subject: Zen and the Art of Arse Scratching.

Edit: I’m currently tearing through Volume 2!

Always good to share, hope you are managing okay.

If that was Riding Giants then try again, if it was something else then try Riding Giants. One of my absolute favourites, never surfed, never plan to Surf
