The Health Kick (Inside)

I started taking creatine about 18 mths ago, 1 scoop which is about 3gs per day, and I have felt a noticeable lowering of anxiety and increase in mental clarity and just overall mental state.

Same here with creatine and drinking lots of water, though I take 5g a day (10g if I’m lifting heavy at the gym) and genuinely surprised at the impact on my mental clarity, thinking and overall mood.

Interested in the creatine thing. Are there any specific brands / powders that you’d recommend?

I am now ten weeks off the booze and feeling like I’ve really turned a corner. Stopped while I was recovering from surgery and after five weeks realised I wasn’t missing it any more. Slowly got back on the zero beers as a treat at the weekend and that’s enough for me at the moment. Was never a massive drinker - usually took Mon-Thu off - but loved beer and wine every weekend and could never imagine giving up for long.
Lost over a stone (was fairly slim anyway), looking good and mentally loads better - more positive, less niggling anxiety, greater clarity etc.
Trying not to overthink where it’s going… but maybe this is it?! Reimagining summer holidays, camping weekends, mates’ birthdays etc is a bit of a stretch… but like I say, needn’t be a manifesto just yet

And yes, bang on the creatine. I take ESN brand, secretively, behind my wife’s back, so I get a mild illicit thrill out of it.
No idea if it does anything :joy:

OK now I’m also interested in the Creatine forum hype!

The advice is to stick to Creatine Monohydrate.

Then a lot depends on how you want to take it. You can get tasteless powders that dissolve in a drink - I’ve used Protein Works and Nutrition Geeks. The latter gives me a headache for some reason, but I’ve tried the powdered version in coffee and that works.

I prefer the Warrior tablets which are huge and not the easiset to swallow but I suspect that many of us on TP won’t have an issue with that

I’ve been on and off drinking the past year. Took an extended sobriety break for three months. At that point I could forsee a future without booze. However I did start again, but where possible I’m choosing low ABV beers or Radlers. I feel like I’ve got more of a handle on my triggers and reward centre nonsense. The key for me is not to mentally beat myself up either way, sober or drinking.

I’ve started vaping bud again in very small quantities and I find that helps with not drinking as much too. (most people would probably say that’s not a solution?) :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Sounds like a healthy approach.
I’m still basking in the novelty of it all… the idea that a booze-free weekend needn’t be torture. Slightly afraid that one pint will break the spell

I totally get you and I was the same, but I went to Amsterdam for the weekend and fully convinced myself I wouldn’t drink. I lasted about three hours

I just use the standard my protein brand one, seems to do the job. I originally started it after my wife was looking into things to help with perimenopause, she read a few studies and suggested I should also try it. It has definitely had a positive effect. I blend it in with my oats, dont taste it at all.

I think they are all the same, I get mine from Sainsbury’s!

There is, of course, a Radio 4 programme about it

I eat gummies from a brand called Create. I am sure there is a better product out there but I bought a 90 day supply and I am going to finish that before trying something else.

Any of you Creatine users find that it helps supress snacking? Thats my major downfall, especially in the evenings

Ha! I wish! No appetite related bonus side effects for me unfortunately

Embrace the munchies! One of life’s joys!!!

Edit: though maybe choosing your munchy is key. Doesn’t have to be 100% bran, but avoiding crisps is a start.

I think if you drink enough water that will suppress your appetite but evening snacking after a long day at work is pretty difficult to control.
