My mum got me hooked on chipsticks and those wee round “prawn” crisps as a 4 year old, so I speak as a hardened crisp fancier. As an adult, you could set your watch on 4 pm by my presence at the vending machine for a packet of Walkers (salt and vinegar) and a bar of rubbish chocolate. I stopped in the early 2000’s and I don’t know why. Maybe a biological change, but I was just able to avoid the machines. Having a cup of tea helped and making sure I had a small amount of decent chocolate/salty food stopped the vending machine ritual. I love cooking so I’m serious when I say embrace the munchy. For me, when I do that, I just don’t have the urge to eat crisps. Unless I’m back in the Uk. In which case….lock up yer Pringles!
Mounjaro was incredible at removing snack impulse. There’s talk of a pill for ex GLP-1 users to continue taking. I’d fuck with Mounjaro again to be honest if it weren’t for the money, I felt amazing most of the time.
My ritual is cook and eat a healthy, tasty, filling meal with the family. Then for some reason sit on the sofa consuming salty snacks I don’t need for the rest of the evening. It’s worse when combined with a beer or a couple of glasses of wine, they make perfect (terrible) companions.
Got to knock it on the head.
One thing about Creatine though is if you are someone who weighs themselves regularly maybe don’t do that initially as you will put on some weight initially.
I was gonna ask about that, could really use a lift in mood, pretty down at the moment but I don’t wanna put weight on, trying to lose some at the moment.
I walk regularly and run once a week, about 4 miles, but i’m not a gym bro, smashing the weights, so would it be worthwhile for someone like me?
I don’t think it puts noticeable weight on you it just increases how much water is stored in your muscles? The scales will look as though you’ve gained weight but I don’t actually think you will notice it
Don’t quote me on that though I’m not an expert in any way ![]()
Agree with this. You get water retention with it at first so it skews your weight. You don’t look any ‘fatter’ though if that helps?
I had to knock the creatine on the head as it gave me the worst flare up of gout I’ve ever had.
Regarding the gout, I’m vegetarian, my BMI is great and I only drink once a weekend. My old man suffered from it chronically so I think it’s genetic. I can’t be bothered taking a tablet for it so put up with suffering a flare up once every couple of years.
Regarding creatine, it really helped me with my weight training. Definitely gave me more energy for second and third reps (god that makes me sound like a right twat
, the 20 year old me is cringing at me).
I didn’t get any mood lifts or reduction of brain fog from it. I think at 51 my brain fog is here to stay
Exactly that. You won’t see it but the scale will show it. It regulates after a while.
Physiology is wild. I get the exact opposite. Loads of mental clarity, anxiety down loads, sleep through the night, etc. Almost zero performance improvement in the gym.
I take 3g per day, and it’s helped my mental health and physical fitness, although I’m not sure it’s over-ridden all the other changes I’ve made since the new year.
Getting enough hours sleep, exercise, social connection, getting outside, and eating better may have been the biggest factors for me. Creatine has certainly given me the added boost I’ve needed to maintain those though.
So I’m usually always very tired in work for pretty much the entire day from the second I clock in to the second I clock out, constantly yawning, struggling to keep my eyes open etc… weirdly enough for the past couple of days I’ve started back up on the creatine and today I don’t feel tired whatsoever and the shift has been one of my most productive shifts in quite some time. I don’t know if it’s entirely down to the taking creatine again. The only other supplements I’m currently taking are optibac everyday extra probiotic, chaga mushroom gummies and magnesium but if that stack continues to allow me to feel this way then I guess I’ll continue taking them! Fingers crossed
I find that creatine helps me lift heavier (fellow twat here @Tanner
) but if anything that makes me snack more. I was recomended a glass of psyllium husk to deal with that whihc kind of works.
And another shout for magnesium which I find really helps with sleep.
I eat a couple of kiwi fruits about 90 mins before bedtime which in find really helps with sleep
I’m going to get on magnesium. Just read about the benefits and that’s one more pill?
I take Nutrition Geeks Mg Glycinate 3-in-1 before bed and it does seem to help keeping me from waking as much.
I have chronic Tinnitus and I recently bought these too. Way more comfortable than what I was using and they sense when you’re asleep and can transition from a podcast to white noise (or whatever flavour you fancy) all controlled by the app and the case. The only thing I don’t like is you have to connect via Bluetooth to the case rather than the buds themselves and it’s a bit of a faff. And they’re not cheap either.
It’s mostly genetic. Avoiding beer and high-purine foods will only move your uric acid level a smidge. I lift weights 3X a week, train for triathalons, and I still got it. On allopurinol now for 2 months now and no side effects whatsoever.
That makes sense. I was living like a monk and exercising loads the last time I got a flare up. All I got was ‘have you considered making any lifestyle changes?’….you just think ‘what else can I do?’
I wasn’t keen on getting on board with taking a daily tablet but I might have to get out of my own way on that one! I’ll look into the allopurinol option cheers @dreambeam
There is a lot of misinformation going around and gout does have the connotations of lifestyle excess etc. Before I was diagnosed, the only people I had heard of getting it were chef friends who would cook up ribeye steaks at 2:00 AM after shifts and so I always had the association. Get your uric acid levels tested (not during or right after a flare-up) and go from there. There is a subreddit for gout sufferers, would recommend taking a look around… X
