The Health Kick (Inside)

I’m no expert, but inner ear infections and damage as a result of inner ear infections can cause symptoms of dizziness and tinnitus. My mum suffered from this for over a year when she got older and she’d have to go and lie down because it was so intense. Maybe getting checked out by an ear, nose and throat medic for signs of damage/ongoing inflammation-infection?

Wishing you guys well.

All started after a week with a horrible cough / cold.
I have been 3 times already in the GP and the answer is always the same, it is a virus, it will pass.
it is getting better slowly, slowly but it is mental, 3 days OK then 2 bad, then good again

That’s what the GP kept saying to my mum too. If you were able to see an ENT specialist, they might be able to help identify whether the virus has caused evident physical trauma to your ear that triggers the tinnitus. Or maybe if they see signs of ongoing infection such as inflammation then they could think of prescribing anti-inflammatatories to counter the problem. But I know the wait list for specialists is insane in the UK. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Sorry to read that, you have my full empathy. Severe ear trouble or tinnitus is an absolutely horrible and a mentally draining condition. My gf strangely enough ended up having it during the pandemic and sadly something now she has to manage and live with.

I myself had the most odd ear infection with what was an 8-10 week viral sinus infection before Christmas. Definitely all linked and multiple doctor visits, try this, take that it drove me insane! I never get ear infections but this was bad, my left ear was hurting so bad stabbing pains etc and constantly blocked no matter what I tried it kept getting worse. Eventually it did pass in the new year thank god!

Does anyone have any experience with (supposed) Gut health supplements? I’m reading that the jury is out on whether probiotics etc do anything at all? I’m getting lots of Insta ads for all sorts of supplements claiming to fix ‘leaky gut’ which it seems isn’t really a thing?

But reading reviews I’m seeing people with digestive problems like mine claiming they’re really helping (less bloated, regular movements, losing weight)

I take symprove and it’s been helpful for me Symprove Probiotic Supplement - 20% Discount Code. Trying to work out what the source of your issue is key. For me cutting out certain foods has made all the difference. Managing stress, getting a decent sleep and exercise also help in my experience.

I think that what Any is saying is bang on the money: try and work out what works for you. Both in terms of diet, but also “lifestyle” - exercise, sleep etc. From a biology perspective, we are just cottoning on to the links between gut flora and general health (immunity, metabolism, behavior etc). So I don’t think anyone can say take this gut supplement versus that one. Maybe get one of those allergy tests to see if you’re gluten intolerant or have other allergies that might irritate your digestive system? Trying to identify sources of chronic irritation by cutting out individual things systematically and seeing what effect it has is maybe one thing to try. Good luck with it.

It all depends on the health of your gut if supplements are working or not.
If that’s not good, you flush it all through without absorption. I started seeing an orthomolecular therapist because of bloating and digestive issues about ten years ago and got diagnosed with Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth - Wikipedia.
The remedy was cutting out all carbs, sugar, alcohol and all processed foods for a few months. I changed to a more keto type of lifestyle and have held since then an annual period of lent for 6 weeks from Ash Wednesday until Easter. I am now in the middle of it and apart from a few days of adaptation and fatigue, my energy levels are getting a serious boost and I have a better quality of digestion and life in general. It also slows down the aging process, which is a nice bonus as well

I take a supplement called Align. It’s the only one that I think works but it might be a placebo effect at this point, I think the best thing that works is exercise, sleep and reduce sugar in all truth.

Agree with all previous replies here. I’ve done tons of research on gut health, tried lots of suppliments etc, but the one simple thing that fixed everything for me was overhauling my diet. I quit eating processed foods including supermarket bought bread (its all full of shite, even the so called healthier stuff), cut out refined sugars and added a lot more fibre to my diet. This was a couple of years ago, around the time i quit drinking as well and I’ve had no problems since. Like Andy and Del mentioned, its about seeing what works for you i reckon.

One thing i would recommend is a good old colon detox every now and then. I’ve tried lots of stuff but none come close to these things. They are absolutely brutal but do exactly what they say.

had a mildly transformational musical experience while high that led me to wanting to give up ciggregrets. and I dare say it’s worked, a couple relapses but mostly no desire to smoke for the last couple weeks. I think I’m finally done.:crossed_fingers:t4:

Kind of? I’ve been seriously wanting to give up for about a year now, but never really tried.
I was out celebrating Permanent Residency and Birthday, had a wicked night dancing and was walking home still quite high thinking about how great music and life was, and what I could do to make it better. And just thought about giving up smoking and how awesome that would be.
So i guess it was some kind of self-hypnosis while in a suggestive state? haha its working so far… I might try same process for something else later in the year

Well done. Hopefully two weeks in you’re over the worst of it now. Who said the drugs don’t work!

Basically psychedelic therapy, you’re qualified to open your own practise now

@kava Well done on this one… it’s a tough one but weirdly when you do it when you’re a bit older and it’s been something you’ve wanted I found it easy to not look back…

Re the gut thing - since we did a detox at the start of the year we take this fibre drink every morning. Tastes rank but very good for gut. Also if you need there’s this tea we have that if you’ve had a rich dinner or whatever - one sip of that has you running for the bathroom…

Stick with it. Eventually you reach a point in life that you want to do it for whatever reason, and that’s the game changer

I couldn’t agree more. As soon as you want to chuck the snout, it’s finished. But you have to cross the Rubicon mentally.
