The Dry Drinker Association

Yeah apparently there’s a lot involved in getting something down to 0%, rather than 0.5%.

It was an almost immediate and palpable feeling at the front of the head, half headache, half ‘hangover’ feeling. :grimacing:

Had lunch in the Devonshire a few weeks back. The food is lovely to be fair. The Guinness fever there has been a masterclass in social media hype. It’s fine, but if you think it’s going to taste noticeably different to most decent pubs that pour it correctly in a clean glass, don’t hold your breath. Had a pint of the black stuff in Dundee yesterday that was as good, possibly better.

Guinness is probably the most overrated beers out there- almost every other stout/porter type beer I’ve tried has way more flavour than a mass produced Guinness that promises so much but always under delivers
Saying that I have never had one in Ireland but may be more booze hype

Happened to me after drinking four zero alcohol Perroni’s at rotation. Made me wonder what chemical nastiness is in there :frowning:

That UPF book talks about how processed foods fool us, eg diet drinks make the body think it’s going to get a hit of sugar so it acts accordingly. Wonder if there’s something similar going on here.

I’ve had Guinness all over, it’s always the same IMO

Having said that for me it’s better in Belfast than in Dublin. But then I prefer Belfast as a city.

Set and setting?

Hardly drink it here, you can’t beat a pint in a nice bar with the smell of a turf fire in Ireland. It deffo tastes better. Set and setting indeed.

100% better in Ireland. My parents were Irish and they say it’s different. The water in Ireland is a lot softer (peaty) so the brewing process makes it taste smoother l and the head is way more white over there. Flying used to be round the corner from the toucan aswell and they said they used to import the kegs from Dublin I doubt they do that any more though.

All Guinness sold over here is brewed in St James’ Gate in Dublin

Shows how much I know :joy:
It is different though in Ireland

Although I’m sure they were brewing it in Park Royal near where I used to live back then hence why everyone liked going to the toucan

There’s probably more nuances but when I worked in a boozer the main variable was how fresh it was. The tap everyone used that used to get changed all the time was miles better than the one that got significantly less use

Best Guinness I’ve had has always been in Belfast.

My first job was working behind a bar at 19 and my first day was a Sunday morning and taught how to clean the beer lines. Then it was the importance of clean glasses, then the nuances of the pouring styles of different beers, Guinness, real ales etc. I think it’s mostly this tbh
